1. Provides direct nursing care to patients in the Interventional & Specialty Care clinics.
2. Demonstrates technical judgement under the supervision of RN/Assistant Nurse Manger/Nurse Manager to perform practices and procedures within assigned care areas.
3. Able to assist in setting up for minor surgical minor procedures to include pre procedure set-up, intra-operative procedure, and post procedure.
4. Performs routine duties of the clinic nurse including patient intake information, wound dressing, point-of-care testing, suture removal, vital signs measurements, and accurate electronic record.
5. Able to utilize smoke evacuator, Hyfrecator, Bovie electrosurgical generator.
6. Demonstrates knowledge and skill of wound care, cleaning, dressings, and documentation.
7. Complies with Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for pretreat/cleaning of Reusable Medical Devices (RMD) to assigned duties.
8. Prepares patient for diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures within the clinic guidelines.
9. Uses approved Bay Pines VAHCS SOPs, policies, and procedures to assist veterans in obtaining timely and appropriate services; able to locate SOPs, policies, and procedures.
10. Checks crash cart, glucometer, inventory count in the pyxis, eye wash stations when assigned.
11. Checks that only 12 oxygen tanks are kept in storage when assigned, and empty tanks are picked up as needed.
12. Ensures that exam rooms are clean and presentable.
13. Ensure that exam chairs are in the lowest position, paper sheets pulled out, and normal saline is available.
14. Places work orders for the clinical area as needed.
15. Ensure no medications are left in exam rooms; all medication carts must be locked.
16. Exam rooms are stocked, review medication and supplies for expiration dates, and properly dispose/discard expired items appropriately per policy.
17. Place foley as per SOPs/policies within Interventional and Specialty care clinics as needed.
18. The LPN may be required to float to all areas within Interventional and Specialty care clinics as needed based on patient care needs.
19. Administers and documents medication administration and teaching patients' medication self-administration.
20. Sterile field set up and positioning of patients during procedures.
21. Adheres to patient safety directives, policies, protocols and practices including but not limited to patient identification, medication safety, universal protocol and fire risk assessments.
Work Schedule: 07:30 - 16:00
Compressed/Flexible: This position potentially requires flexibility in schedule and assignments.
Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Authorized to highly qualified candidates.
Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases when setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of existing pay, higher or unique qualifications, or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Physical Requirements: The work requires physical exertion such as prolonged periods of standing, bending, reaching, crouching, stooping, stretching, and lifting moderately heavy items such as assisting patients, manuals, record boxes, or equipment. The work requires above average agility and dexterity. The incumbent may be required to travel between VA and/or CBOCs and possession of a valid driver's license is required. Physical Standards: See VA Directive and Handbook 5019 and local LPN/LVN physical standards.
