Assistant Chief Nurse Interventional and Specialty Care

The Assistant Chief Nurse Interventional and Specialty Service provides leadership and direct supervision to the Nurse Managers over the following units: Outpatient Surgery Clinics (Bay Pines), Medical Specialty Clinics, Bronchoscopy Lab, Pulmonary Clinic, Interventional Pain, Interventional Radiology, Radiation Oncology Center (ROC), Cancer Navigation, Chemotherapy Clinic, Dialysis, Nephrology Clinic, Cardiac Cath Lab, Cardiac Rehabilitation, Device Clinic, EKG Clinic, Heart Success, Infusion Clinic, PICC team and C4 Clinic.
The ACN assess, plan, and evaluate the processes and daily operation of the procedural areas and clinics. In collaboration with the Chiefs of Anesthesiology, Surgery, and Medicine, they design and implement interdisciplinary programs within the service and healthcare system. This role works with all levels of staff and varied disciplines within the facility, including members of top-level leadership, promoting the philosophy and attitude of a high reliable organization with safety and quality of care of the Veteran being the focus. Together with with Chief Nurse, the ACN has 24/7 oversight and accountability for services under scope of responsibility.
The ACN is responsible for the service areas as assigned by the Chief Nurse. They are accountable for planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating programs and outcomes. They provide daily attention to the personnel management and participation in executive level decision making. They provide guidance and direction for the development and implementation of established standards of Nursing Practice. They use lean and system redesign principles to design delivery models and the assistant chief nurse provides leadership and assumes continual and substantial responsibility for the service. They are responsible for population groups with advanced age, multiple chronic conditions, life limiting illnesses, frailty or disability associated with disease, aging or injury, as well as the integrated programs that cross service and or discipline lines.
The ACN demonstrates advanced planning and decision-making skills, as well as expert knowledge of nursing practice. Also, they are resource to management and staff on administrative and clinical issues. Further, they demonstrate expert administrative and managerial techniques, maintenance of professional competency, optimal physical and emotional wellbeing. They are self-directed and shows initiative. They have specific knowledge in the programmatic responsibilities for the designated areas.
Leads and organizes delivery of care to assure continuity of care and peer accountability for practice, including access to care and discharge planning.
Uses advanced clinical knowledge/judgment to promote staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes.
Functioning as an expert in clinical practice and/or areas related to the assigned roles and responsibilities.
Systematically evaluating current practice, and formulating outcomes for groups of patients and/or organizational processes within the Outpatient arena.
Guides, develops, and supports staff from a management perspective.
Uses professional standards of care, scientific evidence, and practice to evaluate programs and/or service activities.

Preferred Experience:
Minimum education/experience qualifications include Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Master's in a field related to nursing with BSN or Bachelor's in a field related to nursing with 2 or 3 years experience or a MSN in Nursing from Bridge Program (a BSN is not issued/required) with 2-3 ear experience; or a Doctoral degree in a Nursing related field. Appropriate basic/advanced Board Certification is desired.
2 or more years Oncology Nursing experience within past 5 years
5 years progressive Leadership Management experience (Example: Assistant Nurse Manager, Nurse Manager)
Preferred Certification in Nursing Oncology
