We are seeking a self-starter, motivated and enthusiastic professional like you to join our team as a Manager R&D to work in the TPU Research & Developmental Labs (PM) business unit as part of our Wyandotte, MI site.  As part of PMD/N, the TPU R&D conducts scale up, processing, and testing of new products from laboratory to pilot scale production to meet the innovation needs of our business. Your daily tasks will include planning, designing, and executing research activities and experiments to accomplish project objectives. You will be relied on to provide knowledge and expertise in achieving research targets, interpreting results, and reporting them to key stakeholders. Additionally, you will have technicians reporting directly to you and as such, you will be responsible for a safe and healthy work environment. 
 

As a R&D Manager, you create chemistry by...
  • Leveraging your education in Polymer Chemistry, chemistry or a material science area, you will oversee and develop novel products for external customers – this includes collaboration with Marketing, Sales, Tech Development, production and product management etc. 
  •  Demonstrating your successful track record in developing and commercializing products (preferably experience with polymers/thermoplastic elastomers or PU systems), you will develop and implement strong innovation pipeline to increase innovation sales and reduce time to market 
  • Identifying opportunities, establishing plans and aligning the plans cross-regionally.
  • Applying stage gate process disciplines, Six Sigma methodology, statistical techniques, demonstrate the capability to handle increasing levels of complexity and ambiguity
  • Committing to clients; listen to, understand, and gain knowledge from key customers in the industries served, prioritize what they value and need, while engaging and driving to fulfill those needs, and translate customer needs into a product.
  • Providing regular project updates to management, supporting scientists, marketing, sales, and tech service colleagues. Your ability to holistically envision a technical solution from formulation, manufacturing, processing, and application functionality will drive your success.
  • Providing role modeling leadership behavior in support of the Exposure Reduction Program and other safety programs to help ensure the health and safety of all.

  • Possess a Masters degree in Chemistry, materials science or related discipline, plus  5 years of related laboratory industry experience – (PhD with 2 years of experience preferred).

  • Have an exceptional project management track record 
  • Are proficient at MS Office Suite and have used data manipulation spreadsheets and have the ability to communicate concepts through data.
