The Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum and the 40+ aircraft in its collection are relocating from MCAS Miramar in San Diego, CA back to its original home at Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, now called Great Park in Irvine, CA. FLAM is the only museum in the world that is solely dedicated to preserving the rich history of United States Marine Corps aviation.

The Role

We are seeking a Development Associate to collaborate closely with the museum’s contracted strategic developer to help build and grow the museum’s presence through fundraising and engagement efforts. Additionally, this role will provide essential administrative and office support to the museum’s management team. This is an excellent opportunity to develop a career in nonprofits and/or fundraising development by seeing how it all works in a creative, dynamic environment. We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented individual with excellent organizational skills, and is willing to tackle tasks and grow with the position.

Responsibilities:

● Identify and cultivate relationships with potential donors, sponsors, and partners, employing strategic approaches to secure financial support.

● Plan and coordinate fundraising events, leveraging networking opportunities and community engagement to maximize participation and contributions.

● Monitor and evaluate fundraising progress through the museum’s donation platform, maintaining detailed records of donor interactions, contributions, and pledges.

● Preparation of pledge reminders, adjusting pledge records as needed. Administrative Support:

● Provide efficient and reliable administrative assistance to the museum's management team, including calendar management, meeting coordination and minutes, and document preparation.

● Handle correspondence, email communications, and phone inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.

● Maintain accurate records and databases related to donor information, fundraising activities, and campaign logistics.

● Assist with general office tasks such as filing, copying, and organizing documents to ensure smooth operational functioning. Collaborative Engagement:

● Foster strong collaborative relationships with FLHF staff, volunteers, and external stakeholders to facilitate cohesive teamwork and synergy.

● Collaborate with the FLHF departmental staff to manage social media content calendar based on project needs.

● Act as a liaison between the development team and other museum departments, ensuring effective communication and alignment of objectives.

● Participate actively in team meetings, contributing ideas and insights to enhance fundraising strategies and campaign effectiveness. Professional Development:

● Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in fundraising and nonprofit management through continuous learning and professional development activities.

● Seek opportunities for skill enhancement and knowledge acquisition to further contribute to the success of FLHF's fundraising and operational initiatives. Preferred Qualifications:

● Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as nonprofit management, fundraising, communications, business administration or equivalent experience

● Previous experience in fundraising, development, or nonprofit administration is desirable.

● Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines effectively.

● Proficiency with social media platforms and content management

● Working knowledge of QuickBooks and general bookkeeping

● Strong written and verbal communication abilities, coupled with keen attention to detail.

● Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with fundraising software or donor management systems is advantageous.

● Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment, as well as independently with minimal supervision.

● A commitment to upholding ethical fundraising practices.

● Flexibility and adaptability to navigate evolving priorities and challenges in a dynamic nonprofit environment.
