Director, Office of Railroad Infrastructure and Mechanical

As Director, Office of Railroad Infrastructure and Mechanical, the incumbent supports the Associate Administrator for Railroad Safety/Chief Safety Officer (Associate Administrator) in advancing the mission of the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) with regard to railroad safety. The Director assists the Associate Administrator to formulate program and technical policies; monitors integrated programs, advanced planning and the establishment of program goals for organizational components; monitors the status of projects and programs; initiates necessary corrective action when progress is not satisfactory; and recommends modification of activities when problems are identified. The Director works closely with executives and managers in the FRA, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), and the Government Accountability Office (GAO), and in various other Executive agencies. Ensures coordination of safety enforcement policy and technical support within RRS, with other FRA offices and DOT Operating Administrations, and with top-level railroad officials and industry/labor associations/committee executives. Keeps abreast of technological advances and maintain a continuous cognizance of current industry conditions. Oversees the enforcement of regulations related to railroad safety as prescribed by Federal laws and assists the Associate Administrator in formulating policy for programmatic and technical aspects of discipline-specific operations and their integration with all disciplines within the Office of Railroad Safety.
