At Daikin Applied, as the Senior Engineering Manager, will lead and direct activities for the Digital Engineering department to design, prototype, simulate, and test software components, applications, platforms, and ecosystems, by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate teams.

A Day in the Life:

  • Develop strategic direction and lead systems and software engineering for Daikin Applied Americas Digital Engineering transformation department activities. Areas of focus include the deployment of new tools, platforms, ecosystems, and processes to improve the time to market and design of new products and sustainment of existing applications.
  • Drive process improvement and development techniques for applications, and development test procedures.
  • Sets project priorities according to business needs and reconciles directions from competing interests.
  • Leads change by setting the vision, gaining buy-in, and continuously communicating with all affected key stakeholders (people, functions, and leaders).
  • Resolves problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts.
  • Demonstrate good understanding and management of the software engineering principles (UX, UI, DEVOPS, Cloud Architecture).
  • Analyzes software applications, manufacturing or engineering automation, and cloud technology trends to lead the development of technology roadmaps, and align resources and skill sets with current and future development needs.
  • Ability to work with global diverse software development teams nearshore and offshore.
  • Partners with management, engineering leadership, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products.
  • Forecasts operating costs of capital, expense, and overhead for several departments and directs preparation of budget requests.
  • Strategically guides and advises management of new developments in cloud-related technology that may affect profit, schedule, costs, customer relations, and/or inter-departmental relations.
  • Provides direction and examples for interpretation or application of company policies and procedures to engineering activities. Develops standards and guidelines.
  • Continuously interacts and communicates with organization leaders. Initiates and maintains extensive contacts with key engineers or officials from other organizations/companies regarding critical issues.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of and deploys new tools, technologies, and processes, involving software, firmware, IoT connectivity, and data analytics, which may improve operations and develop recommendations accordingly.
  • In conjunction with the Engineering leadership, design and implement short- and long-term strategic plans to ensure Digital Engineering functions for business functional areas meet existing and future requirements.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of EH&S safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed safely.
  • Manages 1-3 subordinate managers who supervise a total of 5-20 employees.
  • Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems

What you will Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology or similar
  • 8+ years of related experience.
  • MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of programming languages such as C#, Python, JavaScript.
  • Ability to mentor junior software developers and collaborate with all stakeholders.
  • Extensive experience in designing, developing, deploying, and integrating software solutions.
  • Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Scrum and SAFe, Cloud Certifications
    • Prior software development skills.
    • Knowledge of best practices related to data encryption and cybersecurity.
    • Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills.
    • Ability to keep up with software industry trends and latest innovation and new technology.
    • Understanding of internal manufacturing and production systems such as ERP, PLM, KBE and how to interface with such systems to enhance or augment their capabilities.
