Definition of Class

The University of Mississippi is seeking a dedicated and experienced Facilities Management Building Manager to oversee the operations and maintenance of four buildings within our research district. This role is crucial to ensuring that the facilities are safe, functional, and conducive to research activities.

Examples of Work Performed

Building Operations and Maintenance:

-Oversee the day-to-day operations of four buildings within the research district, ensuring all systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire safety, BAS, etc.) are functioning efficiently.
-Conduct regular inspections to identify and address maintenance needs, safety hazards, and compliance with university policies and regulations.
-Coordinate and supervise routine and preventive maintenance schedules.
Project Management:

-Plan and manage facility-related projects, including renovations, upgrades, and new installations.
-Work with contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to specified standards.
Budget and Resource Management:

-Develop and manage the facilities budget, including forecasting and tracking expenditures.
-Optimize resource allocation to maintain cost-effective operations while maintaining high standards of service.
Safety and Compliance:

-Ensure all buildings comply with relevant safety regulations and standards, including fire safety, environmental controls, and occupational health requirements.
-Implement and oversee emergency preparedness plans, conducting regular drills and ensuring all personnel are trained in emergency response procedures.
-Work closely with FM Safety Officer and FM Fire Protection Services on General Industry OSHA safety, Life Safety issues.
Staff Supervision and Development:

-Lead a team of facilities staff, providing direction, training, and performance evaluations.
-Foster a positive work environment that encourages safety, customer service, teamwork, innovation, and professional growth.
Stakeholder Engagement:

-Serve as the primary point of contact for building occupants, addressing building system related concerns, and facilitating effective communication.
-Collaborate with university departments, research faculty, and external partners to support the research mission of the university.
-Communicate daily with the CSTI Academic Facility Manager to coordinate needs and find solutions to building systems issues/concerns of faculty and staff occupants.
This position may require occasional evening or weekend work to address emergencies or critical maintenance issues.

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

-Oversees and manages facility operations and building and grounds maintenance.
-Collaborates with unit leadership to establish best practices and procedures 
-Monitors and manages operating systems to identify any concerns. 
-Provides guidance and supervision for staff. 

Minimum Education/Experience

Experience/Educational Requirements:

Education:

Minimum: High School or equivalent

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

AND

Experience:

Three (3) years of experience related to the above described duties.

Preferred Experience:  R1 research facility experience
