Summary
Operating Room Technician 2 perform specialized work in assisting in the performance of complex surgical procedures in hospital operating rooms. Employees in this classification are responsible for preparation of operating rooms for surgical procedures; maintaining operational readiness of specialized equipment; serves as maintenance of operating room instruments and equipment following surgery.
Responsibilities
- Uses a systematic process to provide/modify care and patient/family education.Â
- Assists in the inspection and indicated cleaning of the room prior to the procedure.Â
- Assists in collection of necessary equipment and supplies utilizing the surgeons procedure card.Â
- Maintains aseptic technique throughout all phases of work.Â
- Assembles instruments and supplies on table and mayo stand.Â
- Performs counts with the circulating nurse. Assists in the draping of the operative site.Â
- Assists surgeon and scrub nurse; anticipates and supplies the needs of the surgeon with instruments, sutures and sponges throughout the procedure.Â
- Assumes responsibility for the identification and maintenance of specimens after release from the surgeon until release to the circulating nurse.Â
- Identifies medications on sterile table according to policy and procedure.Â
- Utilizes safety measures for patient, self and other team members in the handling of sharps, cautery and other equipment.Â
- Assists, when necessary, in the transfer of patient to recovery room bed.Â
- Assists in the total clean-up and readiness of the room for another procedure.Â
- Performs Unit specific duties.Â
- Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).Â
- Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Experience
Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.
Education
High School diploma is required.
Skill
- Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.Â
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.Â
- Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure.Â
- Ability to understand and follow instructions.Â
- Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications.Â
- Must meet and maintain current all unit specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licensures, as required by the clinical area.
Credentials
- Operating Room Technician certification preferred.Â
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
