Description
Reporting to the Senior Associate Director for Career Design & Development, the Assistant Director of Student Career Programs plays an integral role in delivering equitable career development education to Hofstra students, supervising the office student workers, and effectively managing the University's Career Closet. The incumbent demonstrates an understanding of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) principles and effectively integrates them into all aspects of the role. This position focuses on preparing students for their careers through 1:1 coaching; providing workshops, presentations, and educational programs; and creating career readiness resources for various populations. Evening and weekend hours may be required in support of special projects and events.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Collaborates with the Senior Associate Director to manage the hiring, onboarding, training, and development of student workers, for the Career Center.
- Partners with the Office of Student Employment to assist with career development.
- Develops and manages the Career Closet program, including operations, donation procedures, inventory management, and distribution of clothing items.
- Provides 1:1 career coaching and collaborates with faculty, academic advisors, and other departments to integrate career development into the student experience.
- Develops and delivers career development workshops and programs considering the needs of all students.
- Supports and advises pre-professional organizations, creating and delivering relevant programming.
- Engages in professional development to stay current with career theory, coaching techniques, and industry trends.
- Serves as a liaison to faculty in assigned colleges, providing regular outreach and support.
- Facilitates program requests from faculty and collaborates to develop professional development courses.
- Develops virtual resources and assessment tools for coaching and professional development courses.
- Supports large-scale programming across the department and university, including career fairs and orientation events.
- Maintains accurate engagement records and collaborates with campus partners to integrate career development education into the overall student experience.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in event planning and management, preferably within a higher education or student affairs setting.
- Knowledge of career development theories and NACE Career Readiness Competencies.
- Demonstrated experience in planning and executing large-scale events for student, faculty, and administrator audiences.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in assessment and data analysis.
- Proven ability to create inclusive design collateral and execute promotional campaigns to effectively reach diverse audiences.
- Strong collaboration, partnership skills, and experience working with diverse populations and organizations.
- Proficiency in G-Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Involvement with Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
- Possession of an Academy Certified Resume Writer Certification preferred (or progress toward certification completion).
- Experience with student information systems such as Navigate and Handshake.

Salary/Salary Range
$70,000

Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education. In addition to the salary offered, we offer a collegial and inclusive culture, and a benefits program which includes generous paid time off, paid holidays, tuition remission for employees and eligible dependents, and a retirement plan with University contributions.
