Description
Reporting to the Senior Associate Director for Career Design & Development, the Assistant Director of Career Engagement plays an integral role in delivering equitable career development education to Hofstra students, overseeing the department's formal Signature Events Series in alignment with the Division of Student Enrollment, Engagement, and Success' (SEES) strategic objectives and values. The incumbent demonstrates an understanding of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) principles and effectively integrates them into all aspects of the role. This position focuses on preparing students for their careers through 1:1 coaching; managing the development and execution of key career development events, liaising with dedicated academic departments to support enrolled students, and oversight and management of the Career Coaching team's strategic marketing objectives. Evening and weekend hours may be required in support of special projects and events.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Collaborates with faculty, academic advisors, and other campus departments to integrate career development into the overall student experience and provide a seamless transition from academics to the workforce.
- Provides 1:1 Career Coaching and equitable career support to undergraduate and graduate students, and alumni.
- Serves as a liaison to faculty in assigned colleges, conducting regular outreach, and offering support and program requests across academic departments.
- Develops a Signature Events Series aligned with SEES Division's strategic objectives and values.
- Utilizes assessment best practices to measure event impact with a focus on outcomes.
- Implements marketing strategies to promote events to students, faculty, and staff.
- Stays current with research and best practices in event management and career trends including DEI.
- Ensures marketing content represents diverse student voices and promotes inclusivity.
- Promotes events and resources for all students on campus including alumni.
- Enhances the department's brand and builds followership on social media platforms.
- Creates engaging content informing stakeholders of department services and events.
- Ensures marketing materials are accessible and adhere to accessibility standards.
- Collaborates with campus partners for cross-promotion and expand initiative reach.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in event planning and management, preferably within a higher education or student affairs setting.
- Knowledge of career development theories and NACE Career Readiness Competencies.
- Demonstrated experience in planning and executing large-scale events for student, faculty, and administrator audiences.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in assessment and data analysis.
- Proven ability to create inclusive design collateral and execute promotional campaigns to effectively reach diverse audiences.
- Strong collaboration, partnership skills, and experience working with diverse populations and organizations.
- Proficiency in G-Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Possession of an Academy Certified Resume Writer Certification preferred (or progress toward certification completion).
- Experience with student information systems such as Navigate and Handshake.

Salary/Salary Range
$70,000
Additional Information
Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education. In addition to the salary offered, we offer a collegial and inclusive culture, and a benefits program which includes generous paid time off, paid holidays, tuition remission for employees and eligible dependents, and a retirement plan with University contributions.
*Salary ranges indicated for positions covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement are in accordance with the CBA.
