Job Description
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) is establishing the Center for Crime Science and Violence Prevention (CCSVP), a university wide research center located on the Southwestern Illinois Justice & Workforce Development Campus. The center will focus on assisting regional stakeholders, academics and the community in developing, executing and evaluating violence prevention projects.

We are seeking an innovative, visionary director for the center who will provide leadership in establishing practitioner-oriented research and educational initiatives across academic units at SIUE. Specifically, the director will: (a) Create multidisciplinary approaches to violence prevention research; (b) foster partnerships with stakeholders in the region (and beyond); (c) Facilitate and participate in pursuing external funding; (d) Educate, mentor and provide real-world experiences to undergraduate and graduate students; (e) Promote the use of evidence-based approaches and data-driven criminal justice practices; (f) Work toward greater regional data transparency and data sharing, especially of geospatial criminal justice data; (g) Work on technology focused projects that enhance equity, justice and violence reductions, such as surveillance technology and Virtual Reality training.

The position of director is a 12-month appointment with the opportunity of tenure in the Department of Criminal Justice Studies. The director will report to the Associate Provost for Research.

Minimum Qualifications

Successful candidates will be SIUE faculty with a terminal degree. Eligibility for the rank of Professor in Criminal Justice Studies is required. The successful candidate must have excellent quantitative research skills, including experience with geospatial analysis and evaluation research. Experience with ArcGIS, STATA and/or R is expected, familiarity with raw criminal justice data such as CAD and RMS data is also required. Candidate should have a track record of external grant funding and experience writing and presenting for both academic and professional audiences.
