Job Summary
The East Tennessee State University Department of Music is seeking an adjunct faculty member to teach composition with a specific focus on choral and vocal music. Teaching can be done completely online, though in-person is preferred. Applied composition will be the primary teaching responsibility. Additional courses, including music theory and aural skills, composition (group), and more may be available depending on the skill set of the individual and the needs of the department.

East Tennessee State University is a thriving university of just over 15,000 students nestled in the beautiful highland foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The Department of Music is composed of 175 undergraduate students and a new graduate program (beginning fall 2024).

Salary: $1000 per credit for faculty with a doctorate degree; $900 per credit for faculty with a master’s degree. The expected load in the first year is to be no less than 6 credits each semester. Additional courses can be added if qualified. Faculty may also teach in the Community Music School.

Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in Composition. A theory degree will be considered with a demonstrated portfolio of choral compositions.
Demonstrated success teaching composition.

Successful choral music publications (can be self-published)
