At John Hancock, Actuarial Interns are given the opportunity to gain exposure to key actuarial disciplines including pricing, valuation, investments, risk management and financial modeling. As an Actuarial Intern, you will develop technical expertise, business integrity and strong leadership skills while learning about the actuarial career.
We are currently looking for highly motivated actuarial interns to join us in our Boston, Massachusetts, USA office for an internship running from May - August. This is a hybrid position, where you are expected to be in the office for our company's core in-office days, with the opportunity to work remotely on the other days.
Program Overview
- Placed in one of our many actuarial departments (i.e. pricing, valuation, modeling, etc.) for the duration of the internship
- Participate in a mentorship program with a full-time actuarial student
- Attend events on a regular basis with speakers from various departments within our organization to further develop professional skills
- Network with senior management
- Attend social events with fellow interns and full-time employees throughout the internship
How you'll make an impact
- Participate in meetings with manager and team to help determine work priorities
- Complete process improvement projects to help increase efficiency in the department
- Present results and recommendations to manager and other stakeholders on projects
What you'll bring to the team
- Strong university GPA with success in relevant courses
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with both technical and non- technical team members
- Strong analytical, quantitative and problem-solving skills, with the ability to be an innovative thinker and understand the "big picture"
- High energy, results oriented self-starter, with the ability to achieve under tight deadlines
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Familiarity with Society of Actuaries (SOA) qualification process
- Strong working knowledge of Excel; programming skills is an asset
- Other actuarial or financial internships considered an asset
- Mandatory participation in program for the full 12 weeks

Salary & Benefits
Salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
