The Nonprofit Risk Management Center (NRMC) is a small, nimble nonprofit based in Leesburg, VA that provides educational resources and consulting help to other nonprofits, including large international entities and US-based community-serving agencies. The professional hired for the new position of Assistant Executive Director will lead and support consulting projects, champion the development and delivery of NRMC products and services, lead and support the marketing of NRMC services, and serve as a trusted advisor to our consulting clients and Affiliate Members.

This is a hands-on, in-person role. The expectation is that you will principally work from our Leesburg, VA office with occasional remote work. Writing and editing thoughtful reports, educational articles, and compelling training materials are key responsibilities. The Assistant Executive Director coordinates and juggles multiple projects and ensures the timely completion of deliverables. The position will have no direct reports initially, but is expected to collaborate with other members of our small team on a daily basis and step in for our ED and other team members when they are unavailable. The position is ideal for an individual who enjoys taking the lead on some projects, but also serving as a partner on projects led by others. The ability to write clear, compelling narrative reports is required for the position. Also required is the ability to design instructional materials and ability/willingness to teach a variety of risk-related subjects to in-person and virtual audiences.

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5+ years of professional experience, including roles with significant writing responsibilities
  • Superior writing, editing, research, and verbal communications skills
  • Project management and teaching experience (workshops, webinars)
  • Experience working within or advising nonprofit organizations
  • Interest in administrative and leadership functions and responsibilities, as a thought-partner and back-up to our ED
  • Ability to travel approximately 5-10 days per year

Preferred:

  • 2+ years of management consulting experience
  • 2+ years in a risk management role

Duties:

  • Lead and support consulting engagements with complex nonprofit organizations
  • Design and deliver practical educational workshops (in-person) and webinars for clients, members and conference attendees
  • Co-lead the in-person Risk Leadership Certificate Program (RLCP) with our ED beginning Fall 2025
  • Research and draft articles on a wide range of topics related to risk management in nonprofit organizations (See "resources" on nonprofitrisk.org)
  • Draft compelling proposals and detailed reports for consulting engagements
  • Represent NRMC at meetings with current and prospective clients and at educational events
  • Support business development strategies that will enable NRMC to grow and become more effective
  • Answer risk-related inquiries (calls and emails) from Affiliate Members and the general public and support users of NRMC's risk-related web applications (See "apps" on nonprofitrisk.org)
