Duties

What will I do in this position if hired?

In this position, you will be overseeing staff who perform substantive mission-oriented work in FEMA region 6 and serving as a senior level advisor to regional recovery staff and leadership concerning policy issues dealing with assisting individuals recover from disasters. Typical assignments include:

  • Supervising and managing staff over a large geographic area.
  • Determining required and available resources for the Individual Assistance (IA) mission (e.g., technical expertise, equipment, funding, training) and capacities, as well as future sources, to support IA branch and disaster priorities.
  • Coordinating with states, local, tribal and non-profit partners to deliver recovery programs to communities and individuals impacted by disasters.
  • Problem-solving and communicating effectively orally and in writing with senior leaders in an often politically sensitive environment.

All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
