About the Role

KIPP Texas is looking for a Deputy Chief of School Culture and Achievement (DCSCA). Under the direction of the Chief Schools Officer (CSO), the DCSCA is responsible for implementing and overseeing all initiatives related to maintaining and improving school culture, leading to increased student achievement. The DCSCA will ensure that all KIPP schools are preparing students to succeed in college and developing mindsets and skills to support their achievement. The DCSA will play a critical role in coaching and supporting School Leader Managers and School Leaders in creating equitable, joyful, academically excellent learning environments that improve student achievement outcomes by closing opportunity gaps. The DCSCA will advise the CSO and the Regional Superintendents on instructional methodologies and professional development for staff and administration to ensure that all KIPP schools create a sense of belonging for students so that they can achieve extraordinary outcomes. In this role, the DCSCA will be a trusted partner of the Talent team to align with the Rubric for Educational Excellence and professional learning. The Deputy Chief of School Achievement will manage the school wellness and culture team.

This is an ideal role for an innovative systems-level leader with a track record of transformative change in schools. The DCSCA will assist in developing short- and long-term goals to ensure the successful implementation of KIPP Texas’ mission, including working to impact system change, remove barriers, and scale academic achievement across all KIPP Texas schools.

You communicate and embody KIPP Texas’ culture and core values and deeply understand how the values should be lived at our schools; You model effective leadership practices, including articulating a vision for effective support to schools, utilizing time management strategies, and prioritizing work; You provide coaching and support to Regional leaders and their school leadership teams in leadership competencies aligned to their individual professional learning plans, specifically in the areas of equity-based leadership, instructional leadership, leading through others, and leveraging impact and influence to drive transformational change; You are a model of equitable practices while teaching and insisting that School Leaders (SLs) and School Leader Managers (SLMs) also be models of equitable practices in their decision-making for both BIG and Little KIPPsters; You analyze data at the student level through the regional level to support SLs and SLMs in crafting plans that are responsive to both strengths and areas of opportunities around school culture, leadership, and student outcomes; You assist in setting the vision and direction for Big KIPPster's professional learning experiences that are rigorous, aligned, and collaborative in service of building community within, and across, horizontal communities of SLs and SLMs.

Key Responsibilities

Create a vision for ensuring every staff member at KIPP understands and insists on an effective school culture focused on belonging and achievement; Insist on the implementation of the KIPP Texas Academic Strategy and other KTX strategic initiatives. Plan and implement high quality professional learning for regional leaders. Ensure alignment on student culture and achievement through all departments at KIPP Texas to ensure consistency and clarity; In collaboration with state and regional leaders, conducts regular formal and informal classroom walk-throughs aligned to student achievement and strategic goals; Not only model anti-racist and equitable practices for regional leaders, school leader managers, and school leaders but a creator of processes to support anti-racism and equity in curriculum and culture. while supporting ALL in becoming strong models for the teams they support and lead; Provide insight and thought leadership to regional leaders and school leaders by staying well-informed of current curricular and educational thoughts, trends, and practices, as well as, proposed legislation impacting the schools; Participate in staff and other network meetings to maintain alignment between all divisions and the work supporting the development of school leaders; Support the use of comprehensive data to make instructional decisions. This includes compiling, interpreting, and communicating data to determine KIPP Texas’ needs and inform instruction and systems management; Provide recommendations to Chief Schools Officer on general funds and categorical budgets related to curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development; In partnership with Regional Superintendents, ensure that the schools are aligned with and integrated into all aspects of KIPP Texas Ensure school leader managers and school leaders are aware of policy updates at both the regional and state level; Builds the instructional leadership capacity of school leadership with a particular focus on aligned interventions, community, and culture; Engage in rigorous professional development to build on both personal and school-wide strengths and areas of growth to promote KIPP Texas’ mission and vision; Institute strong accountability and enabling systems to support schools in attaining strong student achievement outcomes for ALL students, including students in specialized cohorts; Are committed to restorative justice as a means of addressing conflicts or challenges in the community, whether between students, staff members, or students and staff members; Are active participants in a supportive professional community that fosters respect, trust, honesty, risk-taking, open-mindedness, flexibility, collaboration, and continuous improvement; Performs any other duties as assigned. Demonstrated commitment to KIPP Texas mission Ability to model KIPP’s values at all times Bachelor’s degree required, Advanced degree preferred 5 years of supervisory and management experience, preferably in a large, dynamic, mission-driven organization Proven success in school-based leadership as a principal or assistant principal, or school counselor Minimum 3-5 years of successful teaching experience State or district-wide curriculum development experience Demonstrated commitment to Equity and Social Justice Demonstrated track record of setting ambitious goals and driving results Experience with educational organizations, non-profit management, and/or non-profit consulting, is preferred

Work Environment

Hybrid work - in office/at schools a minimum of 3 days a week. Typical office environment with frequent interruptions.

Travel Requirements

Ability to travel to various locations within Texas, travel time of approximately 25% - 35%

The starting salary for this position is $140k and placement in the salary range is commensurate upon experience and internal equity.
