Summary:

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System's Urban Affairs and New Nontraditional Programs is seeking an Urban Regional Extension Agent (UREA) -in Forestry, Wildlife & Natural Resources Management - Houston County/Dale County to identify, assess, prioritize needs, and provide learning opportunities to urban, new[CC1] , and nontraditional audiences. The UREA in this position will work in the Forestry, Wildlife and Natural Resources Management program area. The UREA will work as part of a support team under the direction of an Extension Specialist providing leadership and program content supported through a Program Team for underserved and underrepresented communities and individuals.

The UREA will be involved in programs that focus on solving social, economic, and environmental problems in forestry, wildlife and natural resource management, to include soil and water conservation, wildlife management, waste management, watershed management, natural resources management, climate change, climate resiliency, disaster preparedness, green-space development, urban forestry, agroforestry, and managing home environments.

This position will provide educational programs to Houston and Dale Counties.

[CC1]No need to duplicate the program areas, I think calling it UREA-Urban Ag in Mobile/Baldwin, then outlining the program areas is less duplicative.

Location: Houston County/Dale CountyEssential Duties and Responsibilities:

* The selected UREA will work as part of a team under the direction of an Extension Specialist; delivering quality programs using a variety of education materials and teaching methods to reach varied target audiences in assigned counties.
* This position is a 100% assignment in the program area of Forestry, Wildlife and Natural Resources Management.
* The selected individual will promote, market, and implement related educational programs which will include but are not limited to soil and water conservation, wildlife management, waste management, watershed management, natural resources management, climate change, climate resiliency, disaster preparedness, green-space development, urban forestry, agroforestry, and managing home environments.
* The agent is required to utilize public service announcements, social media, news articles, fact sheets, brochures, flyers, and other innovative marketing tools.
* Recruit county volunteers, program partners, and collaborators.
* Responsible for developing and managing a program advisory committee for program input.
* Develop community leadership and other community assessments to support county program directions.
* The UREA seeks funding support through grants, contracts, and program agreements with relevant agencies and organizations.
* Responsible for conducting surveys to collect impact data, measure effectiveness, and report accomplishments.
* Evaluate, analyze, and interpret program data to complete required organization reports and show program impact.

Minimum Position Requirements (including years of experience, certifications, licenses, etc.):

* A bachelor's in environmental science, natural resources management, plant or soil science, climate science, forestry, biology, or related sciences. Degree may be in different areas but candidate must provide a broad familiarity or understanding of natural resource conservation, environmental science, forestry, wildlife, soil and water sciences..
* The successful incumbent will be required to obtain a master's degree within five years of successfully completing a probationary period.
* Ability to travel and work flexible hours that can include nights and weekends is required to fulfill assigned responsibilities. Travel in assigned geographical area requires use of a reliable personal vehicle to conduct Extension business. (Travel reimbursement is available)
* Ability to provide hands-on demonstrations of program recommended methods and practices.
* Ability to work with minimum supervision in various indoor and outdoor settings while implementing and evaluating impact driven programming with an understanding of sociological impacts, and exhibit leadership and people skills.
* Intermediate to Advanced experience with Microsoft Office suite and Zoom.
* Applicant must have a demonstrated interest and enthusiasm for working with urban, new, and nontraditional audiences to deliver new and innovative programs.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills required.

Preferred qualifications

* Master's degree in relevant discipline preferred. Graduate level courses and specialized certifications in related fields preferred.
* Some experience in forestry, wildlife and natural resource management is preferred.
* Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.
* Use of Computer applications, programs, social media, and other communications methods required.
* Ability to collect, analyze, and report impact data for reports, and to appropriate stakeholders.
* Must be able to work effectively as a member of a team, work with diverse groups, be self-motivated, and manage time and resources.
