Lecturer/Assistant Teaching Professor of Information Technology (IT)

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State York invites applications for a Lecturer/Assistant Teaching Professor of Information Technology (IT), for August 2024, as negotiated.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be able to teach courses within the Information Technology baccalaureate program. Courses range from introductory subjects in technology, programming, systems analysis and design, and databases, to upper-level courses in advanced information technology subjects. Teaching assignments may require teaching days and/or evenings as needed.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with faculty at the other campuses to deliver a portion of the curriculum statewide each semester using traditional in-person, hybrid, and online delivery methods. The successful applicant is expected to participate in course, curriculum, and program development; advise students; provide career guidance; participate in campus, University, and community service activities; and engage in activities to stay current in one’s discipline. Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment is expected. Interest in active and collaborative learning, the instructional use of technology, and hybrid and online teaching is an advantage. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important. Course schedules may require day and/or evening teaching.

Qualifications: Minimum of master’s degree in information technology, cybersecurity, computer sciences, or related discipline from an accredited institution. Preference will be given to applicants with specific expertise in database, networking, information security, enterprise systems, data analytics, cloud computing, programming (Python and Java preferred), data science, gaming and app development, or other emerging topics in the information technology field. The successful applicant will have demonstrated commitment and advocacy for diversity in the workplace.

Campus Information: Penn State is a multi-campus public land-grant university that improves the lives of the people of Pennsylvania, the nation, and the world. Our instructional mission includes undergraduate, graduate, and continuing and distance education informed by scholarship and research. Our research, scholarship, and creative activities promote human and economic development through the expansion of knowledge and its applications in the natural and applied sciences, social sciences, arts, humanities, and the professions.

Penn State York is one of more than twenty Penn State campuses statewide. It is a student-centered campus of approximately 750 students; about 10% are adult learners. The coursework for the first two years of more than 275 Penn State majors is offered, as well as twelve baccalaureate degrees and five associate degrees which may be completed on our campus. Successful candidates will be expected to work effectively with a diversity of students that represent a range of backgrounds and social identities, including those with varying levels of academic preparation, and to demonstrate a commitment to innovative, engaging, and student-centered learning and teaching.

Penn State York is located in southcentral Pennsylvania, approximately two hours from Washington, DC or Philadelphia. The campus rests on 51 acres, overlooking the historic city of York. Students and faculty at Penn State York have all of the resources of a major research university at their disposal but in a small college atmosphere. Class sizes are small and the student/faculty ratio is low, so students can receive much individual attention. Our faculty members are committed to providing a high-quality educational experience to their students and are actively engaged in research. Our students receive a world-class education delivered in a small campus setting and have many opportunities to participate in undergraduate research projects supervised by faculty members.
