MISSION OF THE ROLE

The Coordinator of Student Support is responsible for coordination of Special Education and other student services, specifically with regards to compliance and accountability measures and reporting. The CSS leads and manages our system of supports by organizing the procedures and operational systems to ensure that all students receive needed supports in our full-inclusion model.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum:

  • Experience with and knowledge of Chapter 60, IDEA, and Civil Rights laws
  • Basic familiarity with the eligibility categories under IDEA 
  • Experience in creating student support plans that contain objective, measurable goals
  • Experience in a leadership or supervisory role

Preferred:

  • Hawaii Teaching License in Special Education
  • Training in and/or qualified to administer academic assessments and GRADE
  • Working knowledge of the Electronic Comprehensive Student Support System (ECSSS)
  • Three or more years experience working as a Special Educator
  • Experience working at the middle school level

GOALS & RESPONSIBILITIES

SEEQS's Coordinator of Student Support (CSS) can expect to:

  • Coordinate the school-wide Multi-tier System of Supports (MTSS) 
  • Track and ensure legal procedural compliance with requirements and timelines for all IEP and ELL plans.
  • Work with the Counselor to ensure legal procedural compliance with requirements and timelines for all 504 plans.
  • Coordinate support personnel (EAs, PPTs, and one-to-ones). Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: communicating with contracted agencies, coordinating hiring, training personnel, tracking timesheets and absences, coordinating daily coverage and filling gaps as needed.
  • Plan and implement professional development for faculty and staff about best practices in supporting students in an inclusion environment
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate meetings of the Student Support Team (SST).
  • Serve as the “administrative designee” in selected IEP and 504 meetings
  • Serve as liaison with DOE District Personnel regarding ELL, Chapter 60 and FAPE implementation
  • Schedule and coordinate with service providers (e.g., speech-language pathology, BHS counseling)
  • Manage re-evaluation processes, including scheduling assessments by service providers, administering academic assessments, writing evaluation summaries, creating Prior Written Notices, and adhering to mandatory timelines
  • Track behavioral interventions, including but not limited to Behavior Support Plans
  • Write RFPs to enable support services required by students’ IEP needs
  • Coordinate transition meetings for students entering and exiting the school
  • Coordinate with special educators to ensure that IEPs accurately reflect the inclusion classroom environment 
  • Review school data and assessments to develop academic support plans for students 
  • Ensure all classes have sufficient supervision by coordinating daily coverage and filling gaps as needed
  • Perform other duties to contribute to the school community and its needs, as assigned

POSITION DETAILS 

​The Coordinator of Student Support is an 11-month position. It includes paid holidays and generous vacation and sick leave. This is a full-time (40 hours/week) role; daily hours may be coordinated with the School Leader. 


COMPENSATION

Pay rate is subject to the HGEA BU13(/23) salary schedule at Salary Range 24 (91.7%, or 11/12ths, of listed 12-month rates); step placement is based on years of relevant work experience. Employees also receive a generous benefits package provided to Hawaii State Government Employees.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE POSITION

​The role requires the employee to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach above the shoulders, walk short distances, climb stairs, listen effectively, speak clearly, and visually observe staff and students on a routine basis.
