Position Summary

The Genetics/Genomics Clinical Case Coordinator will assist the physicians and PNPs in the Department of Genetics and Genomics on both campuses in the inpatient and outpatient settings. This individual will work in partnership with genetic staff and providers to provide clinical care, patient case management, and coordinate clinic workflow. Patient /family care support will be provided during and after clinic visits and after hospitalizations. The Genetics/Genomics Clinical Case Coordinator will participate in the delivery of patient care to maximize outcomes in a manner consistent with Children's mission and philosophies in accordance with professional practice standards.

This individual will support the Genomics and Genetics department management and clinical team members and performs all duties in a manner which promotes team concept and reflects the mission and vision of Children's Minnesota.

Demonstrate knowledge of medical practice terminology and genetic terminology/concepts; ability to manage databases, review medical records, perform literature searches and track laboratory/diagnostic results. Must demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills; both written and verbal, as related to patient care, and interactions with families, co-workers, physicians and others.

License/Certification/Registration required? No

Education:
*Bachelor's degree in genetics or related field such as biology or other science, or equivalent knowledge, skill and experience in a similar healthcare role.

Experience:
*Two years of experience in healthcare required; clinical genetics experience preferred.
*Experience with patient/family contact in a medical care setting, prior experience in pediatrics preferred.
*Interest in working with children with special needs required.
*Medical sophistication, knowledge and understanding of genetic concepts, including genetic testing, pedigree analysis and diagnostic procedures required.
*Previous experience working in a team environment, health insurance prior authorization experience, and patient care coordination preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
*Excellent customer service and problem solving skills.
*Ability to communicate effectively, both in person and over the telephone.
*Works sensitively and effectively with patients and families.
*Knowledge of genetics and genomic concepts.
*Excellent organizational skills.
*Ability to work well both independently, with little supervision, and in a team setting.
*Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
*Experience with electronic medical record system (Cerner) preferred.
*Basic knowledge and understanding of insurance payer requirements.
*Knowledge of hospital, regulatory and compliance policies and procedures preferred.

The posted pay range represents rates for a grouping of multiple jobs within a salary grade. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Children's Minnesota.
