What will I do in this position if hired?

In this position, you will serve as a Civil Engineer or Geographer in the FEMA Region 9 Risk Analysis Branch, within the Mitigation Division.

Typical duties include:

Supporting the flood map update component of FEMA's Risk Mapping, Assessment, and Planning (Risk MAP) program under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
Leading meetings with state and local officials throughout the process to update Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs), including seeking community input and comment when presenting proposed flood risk data.
Assisting with all phases of the procurement process, including using data to identify and scope mapping needs and monitor projects to ensure all federal guidance and standards are met.
Serving as project team leader for a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring that flood hazard mapping products are technically credible and delivered to communities in an understandable and actionable format.
Serving as a representative at local meetings, regional and national conferences, and with other federal agency partners to present and defend data and coordinate to resolve issues and ensure mutually agreed upon outcomes.

What else do I need to know?

Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
