GS-11 Functions: Developmental
a. Reviews patient's medication profiles for clinical effectiveness, drug selection, dosing,
contraindications, side effects, potential drug interactions, and therapeutic outcomes as required.
Communicates findings with prescribers and provides appropriate alternatives to current treatment
plans as needed.
b. Counsels' nurses and providers on topics including but not limited to; clinical differences
between medications, proper dosages, known toxicities, necessary precautions, possible adverse drug
reactions, contraindications, drug elimination routes, and rates.
c. Obtains medication histories from patients and summarizes significant findings in the medical
record and/or to the provider as appropriate.
d. Monitors for and reports drug errors, adverse drug reactions, allergies, and patient compliance
issues. Documents findings per facility procedures.
e. Is able to apply knowledge of normal laboratory values in the evaluation of patient care and
recognize significant abnormalities.
f. Has expertise in the principles of clinical pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics and is
knowledgeable and able to make dose adjustment recommendations based on objective laboratory
findings.
GS-12 Functions: Full Performance Level
a. Verifying physicians' orders to be complete and appropriate for dose, route, and frequency.
b. Screening orders for incompatibilities, patient allergies, and drug interactions.
c. Provides basic consultant information concerning drug therapy to physicians, nurses, and health
care professionals.
d. Evaluates patient's ability to understand medication instructions and provides oral and written
counseling on their drug therapy.
e. Clarifies and resolves all identified problems relating to patient drug therapy. Refers all
matters requiring administrative action to the supervisor.
f. Participates in emergency patient care (i.e., CPR team).
g. Monitors patients for and documents all medical and pharmaceutical problems.
h. Actively participates in the quality assurance program.
Work Schedule: Various hours contingent upon the needs of the service will be required to work, evening, weekend, and holidays on a rotating schedule upon the needs of the service.

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases .
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
