Job Summary:
Our client, a leading MedTech company at the forefront of innovation, is seeking an exceptional Director of Research and Development (R&D) to lead and drive their cutting-edge projects in augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), robotics, visualization, extended reality, ultrasound, and camera technologies. Based in Boston, MA, this role is crucial in advancing the company's mission to revolutionize medical devices and healthcare solutions. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise, a proven track record in R&D leadership, and the ability to translate innovative ideas into market-leading products.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the R&D team in the development of advanced medical devices, focusing on AR/VR, robotics, visualization, extended reality, ultrasound, and camera technologies.
- Drive the strategic direction of R&D initiatives, identifying and prioritizing key projects that align with the company’s goals and market opportunities.
- Oversee the entire product development lifecycle, from concept generation and prototyping to testing, validation, and commercialization.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, clinical, regulatory, and marketing, to ensure successful integration of new technologies into the product portfolio.
- Foster a culture of innovation, technical excellence, and collaboration within the R&D team.
- Stay at the forefront of emerging trends and advancements in AR/VR, robotics, and related technologies to maintain the company’s competitive edge.
- Build and maintain relationships with external partners, including academic institutions, research organizations, and technology vendors.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of R&D projects.
- Represent the company at industry conferences, technical forums, and in discussions with key stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and internal quality processes throughout the R&D process.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (Ph.D. or M.S.) in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in the medical device industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role focused on AR/VR, robotics, and visualization technologies.
- Proven experience in the development and commercialization of complex medical devices, particularly those involving extended reality, ultrasound, and camera systems.
- Strong understanding of the regulatory landscape for medical devices and experience in navigating the approval process.
- Excellent leadership skills with a track record of building and managing high-performing R&D teams.
- Ability to think strategically and translate innovative ideas into practical, marketable products.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
