The Role:

The Senior Director, Strategic Partnerships and Outsourcing will be responsible for leading the strategy and implementation of objectives across all Strategic Partnerships and Clinical Outsourcing and Contracting within Clinical Development Operations (CDO). This role will work closely with functional leadership and teams across the company to support the vision of Moderna in the work with third-party vendors and is responsible for driving strong partnership values throughout the lifecycle and lifetime of each vendor relationship. This role is a visible leadership position within CDO and is expected to have a significant impact across the organization.

Heres What Youll Do:

Serve as a strategic leader and counterpart on key partnerships, ensuring successful new vendor collaborations, and maintenance and/or improvement of existing partnerships in an evolving environment.

Develop the strategic outsourcing strategy in alignment and collaboration with internal decisions on external vs. internal capability build and opportunities.

Drive a culture of collaboration and transparency and ensure alignment across partners on mission and culture.

Develop a holistic and broad strategic sourcing strategy that addresses Modernas partnership goals and vendor-specific partnership goals.

Lead efforts to analyze and adjust low-performing areas to support successful partnerships.

Influence internal and external stakeholders to deliver partnership objectives around prioritization, budget, and strategic planning.

Anticipate and manage change both internally and externally.

Support and lead the team of Alliance Management and Clinical Outsourcing leaders responsible for development and delivery of key objectives across respective vendors.

Provide oversight and supervision of the vendor-specific operating and governance models to support execution of activities across Modernas portfolio.

Lead problem-solving and decision-making with a solution-oriented mindset.

Maintain organizational alignment and stakeholder relationships across entities.

Establish and oversee agreed-upon escalation and issue resolution pathways. Ensure pathways are followed, issues are resolved in a timely and satisfactory manner, and decision-making occurs at the appropriate level up to and including senior/executive leadership.

Proactively identify trends and systemic issues across the vendor(s), propose solutions, and engage the right stakeholders to follow through to resolution.

Identify appropriate and adequate vendors to support gaps and complement or expand internal capabilities.

Determine and implement agreed-upon flexible allocation strategy across strategic partners by proactive utilization of company objectives, data analytics, key performance indicators (KPIs), and other metrics, trends, and data to inform strategy.

Ensure adherence to the allocation strategy, including proper oversight of financial compliance, contracted scope, and additional activities.

In collaboration with the Strategic Partnerships and Outsourcing team and functional areas or cross-functional teams, assess vendor capabilities and internal processes to identify new opportunities for optimization and innovation.

Responsible for creating mechanisms to inform and make data-driven decisions on vendor and internal performance insights and improvement opportunities.

Collaborate internally and across organizations to ensure alignment of information, best practices, and to standardize processes, if applicable.

Identify and execute with the team on select projects and initiatives to ensure effective and optimized delivery within each partnership.

Understand the intersection between Procurement, Alliance Management, Outsourcing/Contracting, and functional teams and facilitate strong collaboration, smooth handoffs, and communication between functions.

Lead and collaborate on efforts with the team to support the entire lifecycle of vendor engagements from vendor selection, through RFI and RFP, selection and contracting, and then monitoring performance.

Support contract negotiations/renegotiations, including MSAs, with functional areas and Procurement with an ability to make business-critical decisions related to negotiations and escalations at a senior level. Drive and support issue resolution for interpretation of MSAs, scopes of work, and other contractual documents. Develop processes and execute on monitoring of contractual obligations.

Establish and evolve efficient ways of working within Clinical Outsourcing inclusive of evolved templates and budget grids, digital solutions, structure, and future planning to support the timely and quality delivery of contracts, subsequent change orders, and related materials across the organization.

Leverage internal and external benchmarking data to drive decision-making and support negotiations.

Monitor the health of partnerships through the definition and reporting of KPIs.

Identify and document best practices for different partnerships to evaluate implementation with Modernas vendors.

Collaborate with Digital and cross-functional leaders and stakeholders to identify and implement strategic initiatives, processes, and innovative solutions to support Alliance Management and Outsourcing.

Line management responsibility for Alliance Management/Strategic Partnerships and Clinical Outsourcing leaders.

Drive hiring and retention strategy to build and develop high-performing teams.

Responsible for training and development, including proactive identification of learning opportunities, for staff.

Ensure internal and external visibility and support of Alliance Management and Clinical Outsourcing functions.

Provide adequate training on negotiation skills, contract terms, templates, decision trees, and KPIs.

Raise awareness internally regarding the functions value to the organization.

Heres What Youll Bring to the Table:

BA/BS required; Advanced degree preferred.

Minimum of 12+ years of experience in a clinical research environment within the pharmaceutical and biotech industry, 8+ years of direct experience in alliance management, vendor management, clinical outsourcing, and contracting demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility and leadership.

Proven track record of building and successfully managing external partnerships.

Experience in building high-performing teams and developing team members to be future leaders.

Deep understanding and working knowledge of the business environment for Contract Research Organizations, third-party vendors that support clinical trials, and relationship management.

Excellent leadership skills including the ability to prioritize critical needs, communicate clearly and effectively, act decisively, not avoid conflict, and handle a high volume of complex tasks.

Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment including time management and conflict resolution.
