Job Description:

Johns Hopkins Hospital is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Physician Assistant II to join our Specialty Cardiac Operating Room (OR) team on a PRN (as needed) basis. The Physician Assistant (PA) will provide exceptional care by first assisting in cardiac surgeries, working collaboratively with a team of renowned cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver the highest quality patient care.


Responsibilities:

  • First assist in a variety of cardiac surgical procedures, including open-heart surgery, valve repair/replacement, coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), and other complex cardiac interventions.
  • Perform pre-operative and post-operative assessments, including history taking, physical examinations, and ordering/interpretation of diagnostic tests.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with cardiac surgeons and other healthcare professionals.
  • Provide advanced clinical care, including wound management, suturing, and other necessary procedures.
  • Monitor patient progress, adjusting treatment plans based on clinical findings and patient response.
  • Participate in surgical rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings to ensure coordinated and comprehensive patient care.
  • Educate patients and their families on surgical procedures, recovery expectations, and discharge instructions.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical research projects as required.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited program.
  • Current licensure as a Physician Assistant in the state of Maryland.
  • National certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in cardiac surgery or a related specialty.
  • Advanced clinical skills in cardiac surgical care, including first assisting in the OR.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to providing compassionate and patient-centered care.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Bilingual proficiency.

Working Conditions:

  • PRN (as needed) position with variable shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous materials, and high-stress situations.
