Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Cardiovascular Technologist II to join our team at the University of Maryland Medical System. As a key member of our Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, you will play a critical role in performing routine and specialized technical procedures under the supervision of physicians.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate fluoroscopy, digital angiography equipment, and other diagnostic imaging modalities to assist physicians in performing cardiovascular diagnostic testing and therapeutic/interventional procedures.
  • Assist physicians in establishing and maintaining percutaneous vascular access, managing intra-vascular sheaths, guide wires, and catheters.
  • Provide care for cardiac patients efficiently, responding quickly and efficiently in emergency situations, and communicating proactively with the healthcare team.
  • Prepare contrast material for administration by physicians, utilizing pressure injectors and selecting proper parameters to ensure adequate opacification of prescribed anatomy.
  • Maintain radiographic equipment, perform minor maintenance and quality control procedures, and document all equipment problems in the maintenance repair log.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • BLS certification required; ACLS certification preferred.
  • Certification from the ARRT as an RT(R)(CV), RT(R)(CI), or RT(R)(VI) and licensure by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist required.
  • OR Certification from the CIC for RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist) required.
  • Recent applicable clinical experience in a comparable setting and maintenance of 15 contact hours of education every year required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of radiology and cardiovascular principles and practices, including anatomy and physiology, radiation protection and physics, radiographic positioning, and general nursing procedure.
  • Ability to operate various types of equipment, including EKG, ACT, ISTAT blood gas analyzer, pulse oximeter, defibrillators, suction machines, and Intra Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP).
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to work with patients, medical, and nursing personnel.
