The Controller position oversees the accounting day-to-day operations. This position requires active proven years of experience in various accounting levels while dealing with budgeting, financial reports, benefit plans, company insurance policies, business licenses, shareholders reports and reviews, maintenance of accounting records, etc. The controller oversees all employees involved in the accounting process, including accounts receivable and accounts payable, payroll and inventory accounting, and budgeting and forecasting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Managing the accounting and finance departments
  • Managing the monthly internal financial reporting
  • Preparation of timely and accurate reviewed financial statements and annual reports
  • Measuring company performance against external and internal benchmarks
  • Managing annual budgets and forecasts
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory law, and tax regulations
  • Overseeing Treasury management
  • Managing external banking relationships
  • Maintenance and documentation of accounting procedures & policies
  • Researching and keeping up to date on technical accounting issues
  • Maintaining relationships with external auditors and lead the annual review
  • Oversee financial systems and external providers of systems management and system upgrades
  • Identifying areas to improve business efficiencies and reduce costs
  • Team management, including mentoring and developing staff
  • Working closely with the leadership team to deliver reports, analyze findings and reviewing potential risk areas
  • Managing and supervising monthly close process
  • Reviewing and submitting payroll to the external payroll company
  • Other duties and projects as assigned
  • Prepare and review royalty reporting based on the agreements
  • Prepare and review monthly commission payments based on sales
  • Manage and submit 401K contributions each payroll
  • Review and prepare monthly COGS and inventory entries as part of the close process
  • Lead the annual workerâs compensation audit
  • Primary lead/contact for risk management â obtaining COIâs as needed and preparing schedules for the annual renewal
  • Liaison with external tax preparers by providing quarterly schedules and finding tax-saving opportunities

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Minimum of 10 years-experience, and a demonstrated track record of accomplishments
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
  • Must have Apparel Accounting and Controller experience
  • Experience with financial statement reporting and identifying cost savings
  • Ability to motivate and lead the accounting team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to form strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent organization and administration skills
  • Energetic and motivated personality with an ability to multi-task
  • Able to work under pressure and adhere to tight deadlines
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including Excel and other accounting packages, Xperia is preferred but not required
  • Bachelors or Masterâs qualifications in Finance, Economics, Accounting,
  • Professional accounting qualifications such as CPA
  • Experience with Inventory Accounting
  • Experience in the apparel industry is preferred
  • Experience with factored A/R is preferred
