The Chief Nurse also provides oversight to the nursing shared governance/shared decision-making committees and supports the dynamic Nursing Education, Research, & Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) needs of the facility. Follows procedures per established policies and guidelines. Influences outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in the program level quality improvement process and initiatives as well as customer service programs. The Chief Nurse, Nursing Education/Research/EBP/Director of Veteran & Nursing Academic Service Partnership: Provides executive leadership and direct supervision over the following sections: Nursing Education, and Safe Patient Handling & Movement. Provides leadership and assumes continuing and substantial responsibility for the coordination and evaluation of a program of research in implementation science and evidence-based practice to influence the organizational mission and patient care. Responsibilities include: Oversight and coordination of the Nursing Excellence Recognition Program; Oversight of staff training programs at all levels for quality improvement, quality improvement team training, Provide internal consultation to hospital leadership; Provision of education to all levels of hospital staff; Responsible for implementing evidence-based nursing practice at the micro-level where professional nursing practice is delivered staff education, consultation; Administrative and budgetary support of all nursing scholarship programs (VANEEP/NNEI); sustaining Academic/Service partnerships. Makes significant contributions to the profession of nursing by publication, leadership on task forces, intramural and extramural committees, consultation, development of educational programs, scientific inquiry, and use of creative approaches to enhance the quality of patient care and improve patient and organizational outcomes.
Demonstrates sound nursing and administrative judgment in decision-making and leadership with interdisciplinary groups involved in the planning, designing, implementing, and improving patient care services and health care delivery systems.
Assesses, develops, implements, and evaluates programs/activities to meet needs for changing practice environment/population groups and staff relative to role assignment. Creates opportunities to share knowledge/expertise within and across own and/other services.
Routinely collaborates with the ADPCS to formulate long and short-term goals for the service and aligns these goals with the goals of the medical center. Develops action plans to accomplish the service line goals within the established timelines and available resources.
Maintains budgeting oversight related to resource utilization, people, materials, etc.
Participates with leaders from the governing body, management and clerical staff in upholding the hospital mission, vision, value and strategic plan.
