The Department of Mathematics seeks to fill the position of Senior Lecturer in Discipline. Reporting to the Chair of the Department, the successful candidate will administer and oversee the Master of Arts (MA) Program in Mathematics with specialization in the Mathematics of Finance, offered jointly by the Departments of Mathematics and Statistics. This is a full-time appointment with multi-year renewal contingent on successful review.
Responsibilities will include teaching two courses per year, as well as organizing and overseeing the program's annual Practitioner Seminar and related student projects. The incumbent will oversee the MA Program staff. The incumbent acts as the primary department liaison for students enrolled in the program, supports efforts to recruit students, oversees the student admissions process, and assists in student job placement. The incumbent will serve as liaison to University administration by actively leading and participating in program and curricular development efforts for the MA Program. Working in conjunction with Mathematics and Statistics faculty and administration, the incumbent develops and schedules courses, hiring and assigning instructors as needed. The incumbent will engage in periodic and ongoing reviews and identify areas for programmatic and curricular improvement. Additionally, the incumbent will serve as a link between the program and the finance industry and must have a working knowledge of the finance industry, as well as the ability to build and foster relationships and contacts with current industry leaders that will enhance internship opportunities for students and job opportunities for graduates.
Teaching and advising in the MA Program and related coursework is expected, in addition to the following: active participation in curriculum and program development and evaluation; faculty recruitment and evaluation; participation in the development and execution of strategies to support program area students as they transition from prospect to alum; and academic and career advising to support the academic needs and professional aspirations of the MA students. The incumbent must be capable of contributing to the program's academic mission, and demonstrate the potential for vision and direction that will be required for all aspects of the position.
Qualifications
Ph.D. is required. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and show strong potential for leadership, must have established research and teaching credentials in the mathematics of finance, as well as demonstrated interest and practical experience in the field. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills required. Experience working with faculty, students, and administrators is preferred.
