Director (Academic) - Medical Lab Science

Essential functions (job duties):

  1. Organization, administration, instruction, evaluation, continuous quality improvement, curriculum planning and development, directing other program faculty/staff, and general effectiveness of the program.

  2. Work with the Department Chair in the budget preparation and budget tracking processes.

  3. Engage in a minimum of 36 hours of documented continuing professional development every 3 years.

  4. Maintain NAACLS accreditation of the program.

  5. Have regular and consistent contact with students, faculty and program personnel.

  6. Comply with NAACLS Standards, review twice-yearly updates to NAACLS documents and make changes as needed.

  7. Coordinate the admissions process in coordination with the Office Student Affairs and MLS program faculty.

  8. Oversee clinical site coordination in coordination with the clinical coordinator.

  9. Advise MLS students, including overseeing MLS Honors student progress.

  10. Track the progress of MLS students and initiate actions as necessary.

  11. Respond to applicant/potential applicant inquiries.

  12. Write/review and update program policies and procedures.

  13. Monitor the program budget and review/approve purchase orders.

  14. Oversee continuous program assessment and improvement efforts including curriculum review.

  15. Create course change requests/new course requests/course materials fees requests and update Undergraduate Bulletin content for MLS program.

  16. Report University program assessment in Planning software.

  17. Distribute and analyze annual surveys of new graduates and employers.

  18. Complete and submit the annual report to NAACLS.

  19. Maintain the program advisory committee and report to advisory committee per NAACLS standards.

  20. Coordinate scholarship awards.

  21. Coordinate outreach/recruiting efforts.

  22. Assign and schedule days/times/instructors for MLS courses for each semester.

  23. Serve on program/department/college committees.

  24. Other duties as assigned by the Chair of the Department of Applied Health Sciences.

Qualifications:

-Has earned master’s or doctoral degree.

-Holds ASCP‐BOC or ASCPi -BOC generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist.

-Minimum of three years of teaching experience.

-Knowledge of education methods and administration as well as current NAACLS accreditation procedures and certification procedures.
