Compensation

Manager, Workers' Compensation (MTA BC) Min: $87,951 - Max: $139,020

Summary

The Manager of Workers' Compensation will manage the workers' compensation claims process in accordance with New York State Workers' Compensation Law as well as MTA Bus policy and collective bargaining agreements.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily activities of the workers' compensation department.
  • Review all claims activity from data entry to report preparation, monitor lost time claims to expedite treatment and return to work, coordinate IME and medical unit oversight, as well as initiate and monitor fraud investigation efforts.
  • Oversee outside counsel on litigation management which includes preparing claims files for hearings, summarizing new developments, treatment issues, and fraud information that may impact future litigation strategy.
  • Review claims system to ensure all mandated forms and reports have been submitted in compliance with Workers' Compensation Board deadlines as well as authorizing settlements and/or possible resolutions.
  • Perform post-hearing review and follow-up to take appropriate action as mandated by counsel or the Workers' Compensation Board.
  • Serve as the in-house expert on technical matters, including the claims handling system and EDI requirements.
  • Compile and analyze reports.
  • Monitor and review claims reserves to ensure they are sufficient to support current claim activity.


Education and Experience

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college including or supplement by 6 credits in mathematics, statistics, accounting and/or actuarial science and five (5) years of full-time experience implementing the provision of workers' compensation or medical benefit plan involving the use of mathematical, statistical, actuarial, or accounting computations.

An associate degree or completion of 60 credits from an accredited college including or supplemented by 6 credits in mathematics, statistics, accounting and/or actuarial science and a minimum of seven (7) years of full-time experience as describe above.

Desired Skills:
  • Thorough knowledge of New York State Workers' Compensation Law as well as the ability to interpret and implement guidelines is required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, physician codes, and the ability to analyze medical reports is required.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and presentation skills are required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Word and Excel as well as prior claims systems experience is required.
  • Must have the ability to develop and modify computer generated reports to review trends, safety issues, and problem areas.
