HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE TO OUR TEAM (Overview & Key Responsibilities):

The Analytical Chemist will be responsible for analytical testing, research, and technical service. The primary function will be to be the analytical instrumentation SME for the organization. Developing methods, ensuring accuracy, calibration, and maintenance schedules of a variety of lubricant testing equipment. Testing samples, providing reports, and discussing results with customers as needed. They will be responsible for performing various physical and chemical testing methods and assist in the development of various experimental products as directed by senior technical staff. The Analytical Chemist will support sales and customers as a technical consultant and run qualification tests on submitted samples and report findings in a clear, complete, and timely manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • SME for analytical testing equipment, ICP, FTIR, Viscometers, Tribometers, etc..
  • Develop analytical methods and train staff to run them effectively.
  • Manage and maintain preventive maintenance for instrumentation in the Lube-Tech Laboratories.
  • Function within the guidelines of the Lube-Tech "Team Ground Rules" and Mission Statement
  • Conduct physical and chemical testing on a variety of lubricants, coolants and chemicals
  • Support Lube-Tech's QC team as needed.
  • Prepare concise reports for internal and external customers on a timely basis
  • Provide technical support to customer service and inside sales from customer inquiries as required
  • Support sales with onsite/application support, new product identification, field testing and technical support
  • Stay current with new technology, research and application
  • Function knowledge of a variety of analytical instruments, calibration, methods, and development
  • Perform other job duties as directed

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Requires a B.S./B.A. degree with emphasis in sciences, Chemistry preferred
  • Requires an individual who engages in safe laboratory practices
  • Requires strong oral, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Requires the ability to effectively communicate laboratory testing and draft technical written reports.
  • Requires the ability to organize work and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines
  • Requires travel to various facilities and customers on occasion (less than 10%)
  • A basic knowledge of industrial lubricants, product formulation and testing experience is preferred

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and use hands to finger, handle or touch objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to bend, twist, push, pull, climb stairs, reach, lift, carry and grasp objects. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close/far vision, color vision, depth perceptions and the ability to adjust focus. The mental and physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

Protective Clothing Required (for Laboratory and Production Areas): Laboratory Coat or Safety Vest, Safety Glasses, Gloves, Long Pants and Closed-Toed Shoes.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in a laboratory, general office, and production environment. Most areas are climate controlled dry, indoor areas. The noise level of the work environment is usually moderate, but the production facility may have an increased noise level. There is exposure to solvents, acids, corrosives, and other chemicals in the laboratory and production areas. There may be additional exposure to fumes, vapors and mists. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an individual encounters while performing the essential functions of this position.
