Duties

The Deputy Associate Chief of Staff (DACOS) for Ambulatory Care Service reports directly to the Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS), Ambulatory Care Service and serves as the system expert in ambulatory care/primary care matters.
The DACOS for Ambulatory Care service has programmatic responsibility for planning, developing, and directing the administrative and operational activities for the Ambulatory Care Service at the VASNHCS. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing all ambulatory care clinics, including the five community-based outpatient clinics in Fallon, Susanville, Carson, East Campus, North Campus and Reno, as well as the Winnemucca Outreach Clinic in addition to Occupational Health, Compensation and Pension, Women's Health, and primary care clinics at the main campus.
The DACOS for Ambulatory Care Service supports the VA's teaching mission with support and oversight to attending physicians and other preceptor opportunities. Attending physicians supervise learners of various levels including resident physicians and medical students providing clinical oversight of direct and indirect patient care. They ensure care provided meets standards for VA (policies, protocols, quality). Attending physicians also engage in providing education and feedback to learners formally and informally. They complete evaluations for learners and provide/oversee didactic sessions.
The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provides oversight and leadership for the clinical, teaching, and research functions within the Ambulatory Care Services at VASNHCS.
- Oversite of multiple areas within Ambulatory Care Service and serves as a member of the Ambulatory Care Council.
- Oversight responsibility and/or is champion for several performance measures, including wait times, missed opportunities, and outpatient satisfaction.
- Directly responsible for the recruitment and retention of faculty and staff and initiates areas of programmatic development.
- Despite the incumbent's extensive administrative responsibilities, he/she maintains a clinical workload providing comprehensive Primary Care to a primary care panel of eligible veterans with a wide variety of medical conditions.
- Conduct performance measure clinics to support and improve the health of diabetic patients, with particular attention to hypertension, lipid management, foot examinations and medical management of the disease with improved glucose control.
- Participation in the teaching programs of the University of Nevada, School of Medicine.
