Job Summary:
The City of Reno is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Chief of Police to lead its Police Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the department's operations, including law enforcement, crime prevention, and crime suppression programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and direct the Police Department's work plan, including assigning projects and programmatic areas of responsibility.
- Select, train, motivate, and evaluate law enforcement personnel.
- Oversee and participate in the development and administration of the department budget.
- Direct and assist with the investigation of major crimes, accidents, or other unusual incidents.
- Represent the Police Department to other departments, elected officials, the media, and outside agencies.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in criminal justice, police science, business, or public administration.
- Ten years of increasingly responsible law enforcement experience, including five years of management and administrative responsibility.
- Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license and a POST management certificate.
Working Environment:
The Chief of Police will work in a standard office setting, with occasional exposure to outside weather conditions, and may be required to travel to various locations to attend meetings or respond to major crime scenes, disasters, or critical incidents.
Physical Demands:
The position requires sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting, walk, stand, or sit for prolonged periods, and occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist.
