The Director, Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) serves as the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Statistical Official responsible for directing and coordinating statistical policy for the Department, overseeing the development of data quality standards and confidentiality standards to safeguard sensitive information, and advising on the validity of statistical technical and conclusions. The BTS Director serves as the senior advisor to the DOT Secretary and directs BTS programs to enhance data collection, analysis, and reporting.

The BTS Director:

Provides data, statistics, and analyses to transportation decision makers that enable the Department as well as other federal, state, local and private sector stakeholders to base their decisions on sound science and rigorous analysis.
Serves as DOT’s Statistical Official and advocates for DOT interests in meetings with federal statistical agencies and managers of statistical programs in other federal agencies.
Leads the collection, compilation, analysis, and publishing of a comprehensive set of transportation statistics on the performance and impacts of the national transportation system.
Provides guidance transportation monitoring and coordinates the collection of information with the Operating Administrations of the Department and other Federal agencies.
