Job Summary:

Nurture students' artistic talents by providing a top–notch production facility. As a Clinical Instructor/Technical Director, you will oversee all activities in our performance spaces and scenic shop. Inspire hands–on learning. Mentor students as they design and build sets, props, lighting, and more. Ensure a safe, organized work environment. Teach courses to strengthen both technical and creative skills. Champion student and community productions. Coordinate the use of facilities for departmental shows and special events. Guide users to seamlessly deliver impactful performances.

  • Knowledge of state–of–the–art theatrical production techniques with regard to stage carpentry, scene painting, welding, stage rigging, stage lighting and electricity, and audio recording and reinforcement.
Knowledge of state–of–the–art theatrical production equipment and the ability to safely and efficiently use and teach students to use shop tools, stage lighting equipment, audio equipment, and stage rigging equipment.Knowledge of Microsoft Office software as well as computer–assisted drafting and related design/technology software.Knowledge of the budget process and financial management principles in the theatrical production environment.Knowledge of safety regulations (OSHA or TOSHA) and/or the ability to learn rules and procedures.Ability to effectively instruct, supervise, and have flexibility in setting work schedules and adaptability and tolerance for working with widely diverse groups of students, performers, artists, technicians, and professional groups.Ability to have effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills and can express ideas clearly, concisely, and convincingly with effective negotiation skills.Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.Ability to effectively prepare the stage, lighting, and sound recording for all performances.Ability to carry out all technical functions during events and reset the theater afterward.Ability to cooperate and get along with supervisors, coworkers, the university community, and the public.Ability to effectively supervise and coordinate the work of others.Ability to maintain an accurate inventory of equipment.Ability to work flexible work hours as events may be scheduled during the day, in the evenings, or on weekends.Ability to ensure a safe theatre environment for students and faculty.Ability to work at extreme heights and can perform occasional heavy lifting. Required Qualifications Master's degree in Theatre or related field;Two (2) years of progressively responsible work experience in state–of–the–art sound, lighting, and scenic production equipment and computer–assisted design and production;Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in scene shop management plus a working knowledge of fire, life, and safety codes;Significant professional training and experience with the ability to design and build sets, design, hang, focus, program and run lighting, and design, set up, and run sound reinforcement/recording. Preferred Qualifications Master's of Fine Arts degree with emphasis in theatre;Prior work experience in an environment that required quality work completed within absolute deadlines and effective communication with co–workers and the general public.
