Position Responsibilities and Duties:
Evaluates pupils utilizing criterion and/or norm referenced tests that are appropriate to determine the pupils' visual functioning levels, competencies and needs in the areas of communication, motor, social, self-help, academics, vocational education and cognitive skillsDevelops an appropriate IEP with specific content that contains measurable goals and objectives based on assessment, knowledge of child development, basic principles of learning and learning continuumsProvides a positive environment in which to learnInstructs pupils directly in special skills which include but are not limited to braille reading and writing, orientation and mobility, listening skills, tactile skills, visual efficiency, concept development, use of large print and optical aidsAssists in determining eligibility and regular education placement when appropriateAssists pupils to integrate into regular education programsTeaches students skills in explaining their disabilityMakes referrals to other programs and servicesProvides consultation, resources, and assistance to the participating regular classroom teacher; develops and implements curriculum activities that correlate to the pupils' objectivesMonitors learning and adjusts teaching strategies and activities accordinglyUses proper spelling and grammar, oral and writtenCompletes records accuratelyPrepares a written pre-planned daily schedule of pupil/class lessons and activitiesUtilizes a variety of materials and teaching techniquesShares materials and plans with others; attends meetings as required; conducts all pupil-related procedures in compliance with State regulations and time linesAttends staff meetings as called by the supervisorItinerant assignment - work/teach in a variety of settings and complies with Monterey County Office of Education Board Policies and Administrative Regulations.Physical, mental and emotional stamina to perform the duties and responsibilities of the positionManual dexterity sufficient to write, use telephone, business machines and specialized classroom equipmentVision sufficient to read printed materialsHearing sufficient to conduct in-person and telephone conversationsSpeaking ability in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversational distance, and on the telephonePhysical agility to push/ pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop, reach overhead, climb and move quickly or run after a child in an emergency situationPhysical mobility sufficient to move about the work environment (office, district, school or home site-to-site), drive a van or automobile, and respond to emergency situationsPhysical strength sufficient to lift 45 pounds alone and more with a two-person liftPhysical stamina sufficient to sit, stand or walk for prolonged periods of time; mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions.Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Skills or Qualifications:
Education and Experience
Bachelor of Arts Degree from an accredited college or universityCalifornia Teaching Credential authorizing the performance of service with programs for the visually impairedPossess specialized techniques and skills pertinent to working with the visually impaired, such as braille reading and writing, training in the use of various technological devices and optical aidsBackground and/or certification in orientation and mobilityKnowledge of technology for Braille, large print and talking software Knowledge ofStrong organizational and planning skillsFirst AidCPR Certification within six (6) months of employment
Ability to:
Possess an appropriate California operator's license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles and be insurableInteract with and maintain cooperative relationships with all levels of staff and the publicCommunicate effectively in the English language both orally and in writingDOJ/FBI Live Scan Background & TB Clearance.Pro-Act, CPI and/or CPR certification helpful.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
