The Engineering Lead - Observability is responsible for setting and realizing the vision for IT solutions within their portfolio of products, platforms, and services. This includes leading the transformation of the platforms with particular focus on product and ITIL service management, 24X7 availability, business continuity, high-quality end user experience, information security, and cost effectiveness. You will be the go-to expert for Observability related matters, ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of our systems. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams. This role reports to the Infrastructure and Operations Leader for Global Connectivity and Observability. The ideal candidate for this position has a proven track record of leading and deploying Observability tools, solutions in a large global, or multi-regional organization. The candidate needs to be comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative, and highly matrixed environment. This includes working with ambiguity, creating operational maturity vs. having it already in place, and having successful experience managing operations and hiring and developing talent.   • Through Strategic Partnerships: Build and maintain strong and credible relationships across Corteva IT and our strategic partners and vendors.
  • Harmonizes Business Needs and IT Strategies: Keeps a secure and differentiating employee or customer experience at the forefront of all they do. Oversees clear business capability definition and ensures alignment to technology products and services are in place to support.
  • Enables a High-Quality IT Product Portfolio: Drives value realization from products, services, interactions, assets, and capabilities as defined by business cases or similar tools.
  • Monitors IT Products, Platforms, and Services: Regularly review metrics and health dashboards to assess availability and productivity of the products in their portfolio; proactively identifies services and service levels to manage business-partner expectations.

What are the Engineering Lead's Primary Responsibilities?

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive Observability strategy aligned with the organization's goals and vision.
  • Manage the lifecycle of Observability products and pipeline.
  • Identify opportunities for improving Observability processes and tools to enhance overall business efficiency.
  • Infrastructure Management: Lead the design, deployment, and maintenance of Corteva's Observability framework.
  • Implement best practices for Observability framework, performance optimization, and monitoring.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Implement strategies to drive high levels of adoption and engagement across the organization.
  • Performance Optimization: Identify opportunities for system performance improvements and implement enhancements.
  • Seek, embrace, and maintain strategic partnerships with product vendors and suppliers.
  • Stay informed about vendor roadmaps and upcoming technologies.
  • Establish strong connections between the respective teams within IT. They should have a deep understanding of the interdependent relationship between infrastructure, information security and the applications/services.
  • Develop and maintain close partnerships with associated functions within Corteva IT is including Software Development and Support, ERP, Enterprise Architecture, Portfolio and Program Management, and Cybersecurity.
  • Incorporate operational excellence standards into daily operations to continually improve performance.

Qualifications

What expertise have you grown - What do you bring to the table?

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 8+ years of experience in deployment of Observability solutions.
  • Engineer delivery best practices for Modern Observability solutions including, but not limited to, Grafana, Dynatrace, Data Dog, Cisco Observability, Solarwinds, and Open Telemetry (OTEL), etc.
  • Used open standards such as Open Telemetry (OTEL), Open Metrics, and Open Tracing to achieve observability goals.
  • Experience in designing, implementing, automating, maintaining and optimizing observability platforms (metrics, events, logging and tracing).
  • Expertise and experience in delivering large-scale systems using big data technologies including but not limited to: Enterprise scale Kafka, Splunk, Prometheus, and other Time Series databases.
  • Abreast of industry standards and trends related to telemetry and software pipelines.
  • Experience rationalizing and implementing monitoring and observability toolchain at enterprise scale.
  • Engineering and consulting Observability services around Cloud core resources, cloud networking, IAM, etc.
  • Highly proficient in Observability solutions, Cloud architecture, Application architecture, Infrastructure architecture.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience with Terraform, Ansible or equivalent IaC automation tools and technologies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of on-premises and cloud platforms with awareness of multi-platform solutions and capabilities.
  • Experience working as an engineer / team member within an agile environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to speak to business value of public cloud solutions.
  • Demonstrate solid interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with delivery engineering teams.
  • Additional technology areas and experience: Linux, PowerShell, BASH, Cloud platform specific automation tooling, additional scripting languages, additional software development languages, data experience, networking experience.
  • Observability solution vendor certifications.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent product management skills.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong ability to engage with a global team and provide coaching and oversight.

Other Preferred Qualifications:

  • ITIL, Agile, PMP certification(s).
  • Understanding of SRE principles.
  • Operating in an Infrastructure as Product (IaP) environment.

  • Engineer additional automation solutions including, but not limited to, Containers, CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes, Azure DevOps, etc.
