Job Summary
Responsible for the Respiratory care clinical leadership and management of the selected service lines, including program development, performance improvement activities, clinical quality monitoring and ensuring positive physician relationships; position responsible for recommending therapeutic and diagnostic procedures for patients with respiratory disorders, including patients in adult and/or pediatric/neonatal critical care units; functions as a resource to staff and is actively involved in department operations. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Respiratory Care, required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
Licenses/Certifications:
Current State of Texas RCP license
Registered Respiratory Therapist
Certified in Basic Life Support
Additional specialty certification from the NBRC, preferred

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
Minimum of five (5) years of experience with five (5) years of critical care experience.
Effective oral and written communication skills.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILTIES:
Responsible for supervising the daily operations and staff of the Respiratory Care department.
Provides leadership in the absence of the department director or manager.
Ensures flow of communication between staff and department leadership.
Assists with maintaining department supplies and equipment.
Assists with preparing the department schedule and ensures appropriate staffing.
Prepares and distributes shift assignments.
Monitors staff performance and assist with re-direction and education.
Mentors/leads/trains lesser experienced practitioners.
Assists in developing, implementing, and managing new programs/policies. Refines existing programs/policies to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Monitors and manages the clinical quality for selected services, identifies areas for improvement and implements solutions.
Provides expert respiratory advice and recommendations to physicians and other staff for populations served.
Performs duties in a manner to promote quality, patient care and customer service, while promoting patient safety and cost efficiency. Performs Respiratory Care quality assurance problem-solving and takes appropriate action.
Executes new product and equipment evaluation process; participates in the evaluation of new equipment.
Communicates effectively with professional colleagues; manages time effectively; documents appropriately in the electronic medical record and completes all required documentation accurately.
Considers the diverse needs of each patient through the entire continuum of care, providing and ensuring the highest level of service according to established service standards, optimizing the patient experience.
Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
