The position

As the Director of Fundamentals Modeling, your role will be crucial in overseeing the client's capabilities in forecasting power prices and the impact on carbon emissions. Your work will directly benefit a wide range of stakeholders in the clean energy sector, including major buyers, sellers, and investors. Your duties will encompass enhancing the precision, relevance, and business impact of forecasts related to the power market and carbon emissions for our diverse clientele. Leading and directing the fundamentals modeling team, you'll collaborate with colleagues from the client's Research, Engineering, Analytics, and Product departments to spearhead innovations and strategize on the future of the company's modeling efforts. Furthermore, you'll engage with customers, positioning yourself as a leading authority on the client's advanced models and expertise, sharing insights with the broader community and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the fundamentals modeling team, spearhead the development of power market fundamentals forecasts, and ensure the delivery of timely, high-quality forecast releases
  • Drive innovation within the power market fundamentals modeling capabilities to continually enhance their value for customers
  • Direct regular updates to the power market fundamental assumptions that support our forecasts, ensuring they reflect the latest information, data, policy, and regulations
  • Interpret model outputs and make adjustments to guarantee results that are realistic and closely aligned with observed outcomes
  • Engage in customer advisory and thought leadership to develop and disseminate commercial insights and value derived from the power market models
  • Collaborate with members of the Research, Engineering, Product, and Analytics teams to further evolve and refine our modeling platform

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Graduate degree in a technical field
  • 5+ years of experience with power market fundamentals modeling software (e.g. PSO, PLEXOS).
  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership role and/or managing a team
  • A strong understanding of the functioning of North American wholesale electricity markets.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and presentation skills
  • A passion for driving down the cost of energy from renewable sources

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using a programming language to manipulate, analyze, and visualize data, in particular R, Python, and SQL
  • Experience using Machine Learning in an applied setting

  • The organization works on a hybrid model. Employees are in the office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at the downtown Boston building, remote optional on Wednesdays and Fridays.
