Overview:

2nd Act Org, Inc. is a collective of artists in recovery which uses theatre, film, and drama therapy to address the impact of substance use. Together, we empower diverse and inclusive communities to promote understanding in the face of stigma. We believe in a world where all stories are honored, recovery is celebrated, and everyone gets a second chance.

2nd Act’s core pillars are: Social Emotional Learning Theatre Curriculum for youth, Drama Therapy Groups for Peer Recovery Supporters and those in early recovery, and education and advocacy through ”Prevention Plays” staged for middle and high schools. Through these programs, we strive to inspire individuals and communities to take personal and social action in response to the impact of substance use.

Position Summary:

The 2nd Act Board of Directors seeks a dynamic, forward-thinking visionary to lead this unique organization into its next chapter. The Executive Director will oversee all fiduciary and creative sectors of the organization, creating and leading organizational budget growth, and developing fundraising strategy, as well as creating the conditions for financial success. This includes, but is not limited to, building relationships with, and stewardship of key stakeholders, execution of major gifts, and oversight/growth of funded programs, alongside the staff and Board of Directors. They are responsible, with the Board, for the creation of the organization’s next strategic plan to ensure sustainable growth financially and creatively.

The ED will also oversee and be the primary driver of the creation, assessment, and successful execution and expansion of all programming.

They will serve as the public face of 2nd Act, liaising with contacts across government, public health, and the arts and humanities. This role will represent the organization as necessary at community events, funding meetings, public policy hearings, and industry conferences. This role requires the ability to work in and around Boston.

Key Responsibilities:

Administration

  • Leadership and execution of fiscal growth
  • Long-term vision and planning, research of, and evaluations of programming
  • Oversight of all staff, interns, and contractors
  • Creation and implementation of all internal and external systems and policies as needed.
  • Risk management

Development/Fundraising

  • Creation and execution of all fundraising strategy, including annual fund, grant funding, events, and associated marketing efforts.
  • Cultivation and stewardship of key donors, stakeholders, and state agencies and representatives. This includes strategy, outreach, and representing 2 nd Act’s public image on local and national platforms.

Strategic Planning

  • Work with the Board of Directors and staff to develop and implement the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Identify opportunities for growth and expansion and develop plans to pursue them.
  • Ensure that the organization’s programs and activities align with the strategic plan and the organization’s mission and values.

Board of Directors

  • Oversee reporting to the Board and provide all pertinent information for transparency.
  • Oversee/support all committee governance.
  • Ongoing relationship building with current or potential future board members.

Creating Content /Intellectual Property (as applicable)

  • Oversee all creative programming:
    • Drama Therapy groups
    • SEL Theatre/Prevention Workshops
    • Prevention plays
    • New Works
    • 2nd Act Digital
  • Provide subject matter expertise:
    • Prevention education, harm reduction information/theory, addiction treatment and recovery, public health campaigns, clinical expertise, drama therapy, ethnography, therapeutic theater.
