The Staff Accountant role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting the accounts payable process, and assisting with various accounting tasks to ensure the financial integrity of the UMass Amherst Foundation. This position plays a crucial role in the preparation of financial statements and compliance with accounting standards and Foundation policies.
The Staff Accountant position is classified as a non-exempt position, meaning that the position is eligible for overtime.
This is a full-time hybrid position and is open to employees in select US states: Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.
Journal Entries and Revenue Accounting:
Ensure accurate recording and classification of gift contributions in financial records.
Accounts Payable:
Assist with the accounts payable process to ensure timely payment of invoices.
Review accounting transactions for accuracy and compliance with Foundation policies and procedures.
Perform other basic accounting duties as required during closing periods.
Assist with the annual budget preparation under the guidance of senior management.
External Audit Support:
Assist in the preparation of support schedules and documentation required by external auditors during the year-end audit.
UMAF is building and growing, and this position will support those efforts with other duties and projects as assigned from time to time.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience.
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) or Access and other web-based applications. May be required to produce complex documents, perform analysis, and maintain databases.
Ability to travel occasionally.

4-day summer work week.
