About The Role: VentureWell's finance team is growing and has an exciting opportunity to hire a new Accountant. This role will play a pivotal part in accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. Candidates should be well versed in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Experience working with federal award compliance is preferred. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail and exceptional communication skills. This position is fully remote. The Accountant will join a team of eighteen full-time staff and report to the Accounting Manager. Responsibilities: Accounts Payable and Expenses Work closely with the Accounting Manager to properly allocate expenses to projects, funds, and programs Monitor and work with staff to ensure timely submission of expense reimbursements and approvals from Concur Assist in monitoring VentureWell's finance email account Enter and process accounts payable in collaboration with the Accounts Payable Coordinator Payroll Ensure timesheets are submitted and approved in a timely manner Work in collaboration with teammates to prepare bi-weekly payroll Assist in maintaining employee records and salaries in NetSuite, including new hire setup and termination Month-end Close Prepare monthly operating, money market and credit card bank reconciliations Assist in managing the monthly credit card reconciliation process in Concur, including distributing credit card statements to employees and ensuring proper documentation is received Assist in preparing month end entries related to payroll, such as FSA and vacation accruals Provide assistance with other month-end allocations or reconciliations as needed Accounts Receivable Record cash receipts to correct deferred revenue, revenue account, or invoice Collaborate with the People and Culture Assistant to ensure checks received are properly recorded in the accounting system and sent to the bank for deposit Manage event registration collection in collaboration with other departments Communicate directly with customers to answer financial questions and ensure seamless and prompt payment Work closely with the Grants team to facilitate collection of unspent grant funds from grantees after award closeouts Prepare monthly accounts receivable aging report and work closely with Accounting Manager to ensure collection of all receivables Accounting Administration Assist in preparation of annual Form 1099s, Form 990 and/or other filings, as needed Assist with external audit preparation and ongoing internal audit and internal control procedures Collaborate with the Finance team to improve and automate processes and systems Maintain accurate and complete accounting files Provide other administrative support to the Finance team, as needed What You Bring: Accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit or higher education setting Knowledge of accounting best practices, laws, standards, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Ability to apply appropriate tools and technologies used in the workplace, including adapting to new technologies Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools is required. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g. VLOOKUP function and/or pivot tables) is preferred.
