Planner 3 (Transportation GIS, PCN ) Join to apply for the Planner 3 (Transportation GIS, PCN ) role at State of Alaska Juneau: $2,975.25 / Biweekly Fairbanks: $2,918.25 / Biweekly Anchorage: $2,833.50 / Biweekly What You Will Be Doing This position supports DOT&PF’s planning and operations through enterprise GIS and authoritative data management. Primary responsibilities include maintaining geospatial databases, improving and updating datasets, and supporting department-wide data quality and governance standards. By working with data from across the Department and collaborating with program areas and other state agencies, this role offers a rare opportunity to develop a deep, end‑to‑end understanding of DOT&PF’s programs, priorities, and statewide transportation system. In addition to core data stewardship duties, the position contributes to impactful GIS projects such as visualizations, dashboards, and spatial products that inform planning and operational decisions. The role includes ongoing training and professional development opportunities to support growth and advancement within enterprise GIS and planning. Who We Are Looking For Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with the core competencies of: Geospatial Science: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods related to the collection, storage, analysis, visualization, and distribution of geographic based data and maps. Problem Solving: Identifies and analyzes problems; weighs relevance and accuracy of information; generates and evaluates alternative solutions; makes recommendations. Manages and Organizes Information: Identifies a need; gathers, organizes, and maintains information; determines its importance and accuracy, and communicates it by a variety of methods. Any combination of education, certification, and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in: Public Planning: Knowledge of functions, principles, methods, and techniques of public planning, including those related to community planning, outdoor recreation planning, and natural resource management, such as demand forecasting, environmental impact analysis, financial forecasting, and land use planning and zoning. Partnering: Develops networks and builds alliances; collaborates across boundaries to build strategic relationships and achieve common goals. Project Management: Knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance. Planning and Evaluating: Organizes work, sets priorities, and determines resource requirements; determines short- or long‑term goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinates with other organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals; monitors progress and evaluates outcomes. Technical Credibility: Understands and appropriately applies principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise. Equivalent to those typically gained by Post‑secondary education in urban or regional planning, urban design, geography, community development, transportation planning, environmental and natural resources planning, economic planning and development, or closely related field; and/or progressively responsible, independent experience in environmental, transportation, or community development; architecture; civil engineering; landscape architecture; urban design; historic preservation; geography; geographic information systems; housing administration; grant administration; accounting; business management; or research.
