Mechanic - Automotive - Advanced Journey/Lead (PCN ) The State of Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is hiring a Heavy Duty Mechanic, Automotive, Advanced Journey/Lead to maintain and repair heavy‑duty and light‑duty equipment and vehicles used in secondary road construction, rural airports, and agency vehicles. The incumbent will diagnose and repair transmissions, drives, suspensions, engines, emissions, fuel injection, hydraulics, brake systems, and electrical components for both light and heavy equipment. Paid CDL training is available for qualified applicants. Responsibilities Professionally maintain all heavy‑duty and light‑duty equipment and vehicles associated with the construction and maintenance of secondary roads, rural airports, and other agency vehicles. Resolve unusual or complex equipment problems through a variety of techniques and methods, performing routine and specialized repair and maintenance on a variety of heavy equipment. Diagnose, maintain, repair and modify the following systems: transmissions, drive trains, suspension, engine and emissions, fuel injection, hydraulic systems, and brake systems including air and electrical for light and heavy‑duty equipment. Qualifications Knowledge of mechanical systems, machines, and tools, including design, repair, and maintenance. Flexibility: open to change and new information; rapidly adapts to unexpected obstacles. Vehicle maintenance expertise, including motor vehicle engines, parts, and systems. Self‑management: sets realistic goals, demonstrates initiative, works with minimal supervision, and exhibits responsible behavior. Required Documents A copy of your Class A CDL, front and back (if applicable). Three (3) professional references – name, title, and phone number. Additional Requirements Commercial Driver’s License (CDL): The incumbent must possess a Class A CDL per federal regulations (49 CFR 383). Hiring is conditional on obtaining a Class A Alaska CDL within 120 days of hire and signing an agreement to this effect. Drug and Alcohol Policy: Candidates must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and cannot start work in a CDL position until a pre‑employment drug test is cleared. Tool Allowance: Employees will be paid a bi‑weekly tool allowance of $69.23. Employees must provide their own hand tools.
