Senior Civil Engineer

Role Description Arcadis is the world's leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets. Arcadis is seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to join our Design Engineering team. This is a hybrid flexible opportunity; the selected candidate may be based at any Arcadis office in the East. As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will support a growing base of complex site development, reclamation, and restoration projects throughout North America and serve as a mentor to junior staff. Engineering activities will include engagement at all levels of project delivery, from conceptual planning through design and into construction. Work activities will include a mixture of design, technical calculation preparation, report writing, and construction support. Projects typically include large‑scale earth moving and regrading, engineered cap and cover designs, environmental reclamation, road and culvert design, land development, and stream and wetland restoration. The role is primarily office‑based with opportunity for project‑related travel (e.g., site visits, meetings). Role Accountabilities Responsibilities will include working with project managers and team members to develop civil engineering designs. The candidate should be able to analyze documentation, including technical reports, maps, drawings, tests, and aerial photographs, to understand geotechnical properties, terrain, hydrologic and hydraulic characteristics, and other data necessary to support civil design development. The candidate will also need to review applicable regulations, permitting requirements, and standards. Based on interpretation of data and regulatory constraints, the candidate will develop civil engineering designs on projects of varying complexity. The candidate will use 3D design software (e.g., Autodesk Civil3D or similar) to develop grading plans, perform drainage layouts, optimize earthwork designs, and perform quantity calculations. During the design development process, the candidate will oversee drawing production (with ability to assist with drafting if required). Upon design completion, responsibilities may shift to providing office‑based construction support, including contractor assistance (e.g., responding to RFIs), technical submittal review, and implementing real‑time design changes based on conditions encountered in the field. Hydrologic and hydraulic evaluations. Preparation of technical reports and specifications. Designing stormwater best management practices (e.g., infiltration basins, bioretention areas, filters) and erosion and sediment control plans in accordance with agency requirements. Mentoring and delegating tasks to junior team members. Qualifications & Experience Required Qualifications Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline. Minimum 6 years of experience. Engineer‑In‑Training (EIT) or Engineering Intern (EI) certification. Proficiency with 3D civil site design using computer‑based modelling applications (i.e., AutoCAD Civil3D or similar). Proficiency with hydrologic and hydraulic modelling software (e.g., HydroCAD, HEC‑HMS, SWMM, or similar). Preferred Qualifications Professional Engineer (P.E.) license. Minimum of 8 years experience. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project, and location.
