Job Summary

The Certified Medical Assistant plays a vital role in enabling healthcare providers to optimize their clinic time by ensuring smooth patient flow. This individual must possess excellent communication skills, be able to work effectively with diverse personalities, and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously. A strong understanding of medical terminology, office protocols, and procedures is essential. The Certified Medical Assistant will work closely with clinical and administrative staff, requiring the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Essential Job Responsibilities
  1. Provide exceptional patient care by demonstrating positive interpersonal relations with patients, families, and colleagues.
  2. Embody the values of the clinic by promoting a culture of respect, empathy, and professionalism.
  3. Deliver high-quality care by utilizing knowledge and skills to meet the unique needs of each patient.
  4. Maintain a safe and clean working environment, adhering to OSHA and clinic standards.
  5. Recognize and address potential safety hazards and conditions.
  6. Operate clinic equipment, including computers, paging systems, telephones, and fax machines, with proficiency.
  7. Develop a willingness to learn new tasks and adapt to changing situations.
  8. Assist patients with walking, transfers, collecting specimens, and preparing for exams.
  9. Support providers and nurses with procedures, ensuring accurate and timely charting.
  10. Collect complete and accurate patient histories.
  11. Perform clerical duties, including obtaining and ordering labs, completing referrals, and requisitions accurately.
  12. Maintain accurate records, sign out medications, and adhere to sterile field protocol.
  13. Perform clinical medical assisting responsibilities, including IM/SQ injections, administration of PO medications, checking vital signs, and cleaning exam/procedure rooms.
  14. Communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and supervisors, demonstrating a clear understanding of medical terminology and obstetrics and gynecology.
  15. Alert supervisors to concerns affecting patient care quality.
  16. Participate in problem-solving, assisting in finding solutions to areas of concern.
  17. Document accurately and in a timely manner, utilizing EMR charting.
  18. Coordinate patient care with outside providers, assisting with scheduling appointments as needed.
  19. Manage time effectively, completing tasks in a timely manner while maintaining accuracy.
  20. Complete annual skills fair and adhere to the Medical Assistant scope of practice.
Job Qualifications
  • Knowledge of specific assisting tasks related to particular medical practices.
  • Understanding of commonly used medications and their side effects.
  • Ability to interpret and apply medical orders.
  • Knowledge of sterile field protocol.
  • Understanding of the need for and evidence of consistent respect for patient confidentiality.
  • Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations and conduct oneself with professionalism.
  • Good sense of organization and attention to detail.
  • Ability to document accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work effectively with patients and colleagues.
  • Consistency and timeliness in attendance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to support leadership collaboration and initiatives.
Education
  • High school diploma.
  • Preferred - Medical Assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution or a community college certificate in medical assisting.
  • National certification/registration as a Medical Assistant.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office.
Physical/Mental Requirements
  • This position frequently exposes the Clinical Support Staff to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
  • Requires use of universal precautions when tasks are being performed that present the possibility of exposure to blood or body fluids.
  • Requires a full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and hand-eye coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Occasionally necessary to lift and carry items greater than 50 pounds.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Frequent contact with employees, patients, and the public.
