Position Overview:
As a leader of the Asset Management team, the Lead Asset Manager will report to the VP of Asset Management. They will be the in-house expert responsible for solar portfolio performance and will oversee a team that will ensure the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of solar projects. The portfolio consists of projects owned by this organization mainly, Distributed Generation including C&I rooftops, carports, ground mounts and community solar projects. They are responsible for monitoring system production and directing corrective actions as required, utilizing both internal and external resources and maintaining a database with key information of the several hundred operating projects and provide analysis of portfolio performance for continued improvements. The ability to work independently and as a team member are critical, as well as the desire and innovative mindset to operate as an important contributor within a fast-paced company environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic direction and management over the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) function
- Manage O&M teams, providing direction and managing performance to a high level
- Monitor and analyze system production using internet-based data acquisition systems
- Identify and resolve issues causing downtime, underperformance, and low unavailability, and take appropriate corrective actions
- Manage scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs
- Create, manage, and improve internal and external production reports for tracking system production
- Oversee and maintain all compliance requirements, to include but not limited to, those related to Utilities and regulatory agencies, financial reporting, insurance, warranties, site leases, and permits
- Manage integration of new assets into the portfolio and streamline the asset handover process with EPC team
- Perform technical optimization analyses of solar project assets
- Track portfolio performance and recommend/implement improvement strategies
- Recommend and implement product improvements based on field performance and Operations and Engineering team feedback
- Record and maintain internal documents and records of customer requests, work or services

- Prepare and track maintenance schedules and updates to management and O&M team
- Manage and report the profit and loss of the portfolio and O&M functional group
- Responsible for Operation and Maintenance service contracts for customers
- Manage executive-level discussions with customers about the O&M process and contracted plans
Management & Communication Responsibilities:
- Manage team of technical asset managers, technicians, administrators, and subcontractors
- Develop and maintain department budget
- Provide constructive feedback to senior management
- Establish, maintain, and improve relationships with site hosts, system owners, Utilities, and investors
- Provide updates on system improvements, repairs and site visits to customer and management
- Provide technical information on systems, equipment and projects as needed
Near Term Goals and Objectives – Measures of Success
- Quickly come up to speed on this organization’s operating portfolio as well as those owned by customers for which this organization provides operating management
- Identify and effectively implement key strategies for maintaining and improving portfolio performance
- Implement processes that deliver cost-effective, best-in-class service to clients as well as management
Basic Qualifications:
Must be passionate about the renewable energy business, hardworking and thrive in the fast pace of a rapidly growing, early-stage company. In addition, the Lead Asset Manager must possess:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field (Engineering, Business, Finance)
- Minimum 6 years of progressively responsible portfolio management experience
- Strong technical, electrical engineering, structural engineering background preferred
- Able to read and understand engineering drawings
- Familiar with solar industry supply chain and major equipment brands/models
- 3+ years of management experience in a team leader role
- Experience within a leading energy firm preferred
- Experience with the use of energy modeling and systems performance software
- Experience with data tracking and reporting
- Strong organizational and scheduling skills to manage the activities of internal and external
- resources
- Advanced customer interface skills
- Formal technical training, NABCEP, PE, Electrical Installer License or similar a plus
