We have a medium sized non-profit in Orange County seeking a strong Director of Construction to join their team.


This position is full-time with great pay and benefits


Salary $140K plus benefits


Position would require someone to be onsite in their Santa Ana, CA office and also have the ability to travel to construction sites without Orange County.


Ideal candidate has 10+ years of residential construction experience but commercial is fine as well.


Will be managing processes but not people but working with the volunteer coordinators in getting people trained on safety.



Duties/Responsibilities:

  • project budgeting and final procurement of all material, labor, subcontractors, and in-kind donors.
  • and oversee the management of all new construction projects, including site development and vertical construction.
  • for managing jobsite supervision, theft prevention, protection of affiliate resources, and site/warehouse cleanliness.
  • the annual planning, construction schedule, budget, and program of work.
  • and develop construction staff in all aspects of production and jobsite management.
  • and instruct unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled volunteers, interns, and paid staff.
  • and maintain staff/volunteer instruction manuals, specifications, and other project documents.
  • the management of punch list identification and completion process, warranty work, and initial walk-through.
  • coordinate, and direct the activities of design development team members. Ensure quality, on-time production in line with project drawings, specifications, and schedule.
  • the maintenance of project paperwork, including daily construction reports, volunteer registration, and accident reporting.
  • and approve all construction invoices and ensure conformance to contract terms.
  • coordinate, and manage subcontractor trades and vendor teams.
  • with the development of a long-range vision and short-term strategies.
  • and schedule labor requirements on-site and communicate those needs in advance.
  • jobsites to ensure safety procedures are followed.
  • well organized in all aspects of the job.
  • the leadership team in all aspects of affordable housing and acquisition, rehabilitation, and development.
  • and monitor project budgets, cash flow projections, and project schedules.
  • and maintain professional relationships with outside entities and stakeholders.
  • with other departments to address programmatic issues regarding development and operations.
  • construction progress and approve requisitions for payment.
  • closely with VP of Housing Development to identify acquisition opportunities.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong Knowledge of the Home Development and Construction Industry.
  • Strong hardware knowledge is crucial.
  • Planning, logistics, scheduling, preparing presentations & reports for both internal and external use.
  • Excellent Organizational skills with the ability to create and focus on a plan for dealing with large amounts of labor and material.
  • Excellent communication, training, and volunteer management skills.
  • Computer literacy and experience with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel, and Project.
  • Computer literacy with Procore is essential.
  • Strong ability to multitask.
  • Ability to identify opportunities and act on them.
  • Strong work Ethic with a “whatever it takes” acumen.
  • Strong awareness and attention to detail as assigned tasks are critical to the long-term success of the organization
  • High degree of independence, motivation, and accountability
  • Able to work with time sensitive material and meet multiple competing deadlines
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and written and verbal communication skills and a high capacity to multi-task
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are a must as well as the ability to work effectively with a team
