NextCorps’ Luminate program is the only international startup accelerator and investment fund focused solely on next-generation optics, photonics, and imaging (OPI) technologies. Located in Rochester, NY, considered the optics and imaging capital of the world, Luminate brings visionary entrepreneurs from around the globe together for a hybrid six-month business accelerator program during which they connect with OPI pioneers and qualified investors to speed innovation and time to market.
Responsibilities:
We are seeking a Financial Analyst to support the Luminate program. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
● Conduct in-depth financial analysis to assess the company’s performance, identify trends, and make recommendations for improvements
● Prepare detailed financial reports, including variance analysis and key performance indicators (KPIs) for NextCorps C-suite
● Evaluate financial data to forecast business, industry, or economic conditions
● Identify opportunities for process improvement in financial reporting and analysis, leading efforts to streamline workflows and enhance accuracy
● Support the implementation of new financial systems and tools
● Study economic and business trends, and examining current events and market developments
● Prepare board presentations, internal company meetings, and ad hoc financial presentations
● Apply an analytical approach to evaluate and review ROI for pre & post investment
● Assist with mergers and acquisitions, from due diligence to integration
● Meet with departmental leaders to update quarterly forecasts used for management reporting (Finance & NYS Relations)
● Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations
● Monitor developments in the fields of OPI technology, business, and finance
● Utilize financial software and tools to collect and interpret data for decision-making purposes
● Evaluate current and historical financial data of cohort companies
● Conduct due diligence reviews of all cohort companies to comply with program requirements
● Prepare written reports on general economic trends, individual companies, and entire industries
● Recruitment support for incoming cohort companies
● Provide support at Luminate and NextCorps events
Qualifications:
Applicants should meet as many of the following qualifications as possible:
● Master’s Degree or MBA in Finance or Accounting
● Certification in Principles of Optics Technology
● 5+ years of financial analysis, modeling and reporting experience
● Strong technical competency in Microsoft Excel, Seraf (Portfolio Management tool), Pitchbook, Carta (Equity Management platform), DocuSign, F6S, Salesforce, Babele (Accelerator Management Software), Adobe, and Asana
● Proficiency with financial aspects of optics and photonics projects, including budgeting and grant reporting for research and development
● Ability to analyze and interpret financial data related to photonics technology and its market trends
● Experience working with interdisciplinary teams involving engineers and scientists in the optics and photonics sector
● Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
● Demonstrated ability to work independently
● Attention to detail
● Flexible, ability to work occasional weeknight evenings to support events
● Strong references in finance, optical sciences, or start-up companies required

Reports to: Managing Director, Luminate
Manages: N/A
Coordinates With: CFO, CEO, CIO, CMO, Director of Operations, multiple program managers, program partners, Advisory Board, Chairman, and President
Additional Details:
Location: Sibley Square, 260 East Main Street, Suite 6000, Rochester, NY and/or remote (must have ability to attend events at Sibley Square – not purely remote)
FLSA: Exempt - (Range - $80,000 to $95,000 depending on experience)
Work Schedule: Hybrid work environment (combination of on-premises & remote). Normal office hours are 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. May require some flexibility at times to meet program delivery.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 20 lbs.
